Anyone have info on the crew members who were operating JetLink 2593 on Oct. 12th,2009?

Declared - with smoke in the cockpit. I'd like to find out who the flight crew was and recognize them for a job well done.

Two problems with this.
1. Its a regional crew so they were unsafe to begin with
2. They didn't put it into the hudson
So no book deal for these guys.
But from me good job guys.

 

Dont forget the super bowl, the inauguration, the academy awards, and a trip to Capitol Hill to speak to our nations Legistlative Branch......

 

Did you hear about the Delta MD 80 that had a bird strike on take off a few days ago out of ROC. They lost an engine made an air return and landed safely all 150 people on board back safely. Or the CAL 737 that hit birds on final into EWR recently. They lost an engine and made a single engine landing. Again all 150 on board back safely.

Of course you didn't hear about those incidents. How many more of these have happened that don't get the national media attention.

I guess you have to put it into the Hudson to get the media circuit.

Are you saying that every engine failure should make the news? When minor incidents do get reported, most of the people on here blast the media for making news out of nothing.

 

No not at all. I'm just pointing out that "emergencies" happen a lot in this business and we don't hear about it and the pilots don't make the rounds in the media. After the USAir accident it seems like a lot of people think that every time something happens the pilots and flight attendants should be on a media tour.

 

Are you guys serious? I'm all for giving credit where credit is earned, and on that note good job to the Express Jet crew, but seriously? You're going to compare smoke in the cockpit to a low-altitude double engine failure over NYC? Come on.

Emergencies happen every day in this business. Crews deserve a pat on the back after a successful outcome, but rarely do they ever involve the extremely unusual circumstances of the US Air accident.

I think Sully, as well as the entire crew, deserve all the recognition they have received. I think it's good for our industry and I think it's good for our image.

You don't need to be recognized in the media for every emergency you deal with which is what it seems like a lot of you are alluding to. It's your job! If you're ever unfortunate enough to have to fight a double engine failure and you have a successful outcome, I'll kiss your ass too!

 

With regards to pilots making media tours like Sully has been, I think our industry needs all the positive attention it can get. I finished Sully's book today and he makes a good case for his motivation behind accepting all of the interviews, first pitches, talk show appearances, etc.

I haven't seen any threads about his book since it's been released. Has anyone else out there has had a chance to read it? It was very well written. Everything was written concisely and to the point; just as he speaks in person. I admire his way of wording things in a way that allows the general public to understand certain complexities. He also does a good job of pointing out where cost saving measures have really affected our industry and morale.

Anyways, for the record, I do not think pilots should make media tours for single engine landings, smoke in the cockpit emergency returns, etc. However, Sullenberger, Skiles and the FA's could easily have been among the many other crewmembers that never made it. They lived and they realize they have the nation's attention and have a chance to improve this industry.
