Ha, if you really think a regional MEC chair is incompetent - and I presume you weren't at the TA road shows, I can only imagine you think Lee Moak is a complete and utter failure. Signing back door deals to further erode the junior pilot positions after great gains in the JPWA...

I know about SE's dealings (or total lack thereof) with the former negotiationg chair, as well as plenty of other things. The pooch was screwed very early in the game with a total lack of leadership.

As far as Moak- I consider him a leader with good abilities in bringing groups together and getting things done, but sold out too much on the mgmt side of things. Too much of a politician in that regard, and from our conversations, you know my personal feelings on politicians.

No dog in this fight (don't work there anymore but was a few months junior to S.E.) but S.E. is good for the company. Helped me out during my 7 yrs there and we weren't even based in the same dom.

Don't think he's in bed with 9E mgmt.

Every MEC is in bed with mgmt. It is a fact of life or necessity. You cannot have a relationship when it is constantly hostile.

Look back at your individual MEC's and you will see those policies, LOA's, grievances, other items that while not blessed by the MEC allowed by the MEC. I think the term is "reasonableness", something I heard uttered from SE more than once.

So, is he in bed with Mgmt? probably not as much as some wish, but surely he has spent time in bed with them. So did the previous chair and about every chair of every MEC on every ALPA property. Otherwise, nothing would get done. That does not mean he is not behind the pilots.

SE is into his second year, his legacy will be based on his accomplishments and failures. What most pilots look at is not the accomplishments of years of service, but of the NOW or what happened yesterday.

The real question is not if SE is in bed with anyone. Or the MEC as a whole for that matter.

The real question is how many 9E pilots still think the union at its current structure could bring a change?

If to judge by the participation results of every union function (polls, surveys pickets etc) - very little.

I've known Scott for 7 years, and I can certainly tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is anything but in bed with management. You've got a great MEC Chairman; you just need to make sure you've also got good voting members of the MEC that will properly oversee the bargaining process.

2 issues, the first is in give and take, in bed with mgmt, someone always gives and someone always takes. Call is whatever you want, but nothing is for FREE.

Look at the participation on the property over the last 8-9 years, the structure is the same, the players just change. Participation over that time period, 2 maybe 3 times there was better than 95% participation. Why so few times over that period? that is the question that needs to be asked of the pilot group, not of the leadership.

what is that adage? you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink?
