$6/hr at a regional? Easy...

Count duty time, like any other profession would, and assume a one for three rig: Unless you fly more than 1/3 of your duty time that would be 6 bucks and change.

I would also count a reserve on guarantee as duty time...yeah, he may get to sit on his @ss at home, BUT he is realistically precluded from getting another job during his duty hours, so you have to count that as work hours (maybe not gruelling work hours )

Who works 1/3 of their duty time? Sounds like a call to the scheduling commitee is needed...

We are contractually guaranteed 2:1 duty:flight pay, but I rarely see that kicking in. Maybe 1 day out of 30 or so. Even with the crappy us air schedules.

I dont have the numbers in front of me anymore but I was on duty 175 hours last month. From the pay I recieved, it worked out to 6.10/hour roughly. That was after taxes so if you want to adjust it for that, i guess I made more. I did not count anytime I was away from base that was not duty time. If you count that, then I made much less...about 4 bucks an hour. I dont think that is genuine to count those hours however because either way, Id be sleeping and relaxing during those hours. The bottom line is is that the pay is less than 8 bucks an hour and that is, in my opinion, embarrasing considering the job. Heck, I made more than that 20 years ago as a peon.

I know working for the regionals won't yield the "Big Bucks" but I bet you I'll make more than my $1000 dollars a month. Anything more than the 12,000 grand I make now would help me at least pay my cell phone bill on time!

Dude, you need to find another field of work if you can't even pay a cell phone bill on time. Pathetic. But, you will be flying a jet, so it's ok.

Based on the minimum wage in my state, you would make 1322.53/month flipping burgers full time.

Edit: Don't mean this as an insult to anybody

Are you working as a CFI right now?

$22k first year at my company
$40k second year with the lines that I'm getting now

All not including per diem, just base pay.

Life is what you make of it; when my father was my age he was working on a farm picking cotton. Now he makes $150k writing contracts and drives a company Mercedes. Life is what you make of it, live below your means and you'll be ok.

And regarding the reserve times sitting at home, here we have what's called "long call" reserve which is a lineholder position. It affords approximately a 48 hour callout, which allows for somewhat of a normal life on your "on" days.

I used to instruct at ATP like you and that 1000/mo was nice! Your apt and bills are all paid for and that 1000 bucks is just spending cash. I spend 700/mo for an apt and about 100-150/mo for elec, cable, internet. That would be almost 2 grand a month, which is more than most 1st yr RJ FOs make.

I was just joking about not being able to pay the cell phone bill on time, lol. But the 20 something grand the first year at a regional will be a step in the right direction. After the probation year, it will get better, and hopefully will continue to get better (I know rose colored glasses.) And yes, I am a flight instructor. But hopefully by the end of the summer I will be getting the call for an interview.
