As of today when I voted for it, only 47% are in favor for it which is not good. The more support we get for it the greater the chance for it to pass and become a law. I have found that most pilots against this bill are those that are well below ATP mins and don't want to have to pay their dues. That's a dangerous situation when you get young pilots willing to do anything NOT to gain experience. This bill NEEDS to pass! Safety for the American people depends on it as well as the fact that as soon as this bill passes, airline hiring will resume much quicker, they'll HAVE to start hiring sooner if this bill as well as the crew rest requirement bill passes (H.R.3273: Ensuring One Level of Aviation Safety Act of 2009 - U.S. Congress - OpenCongress) due to needing more qualified (ATP) pilots to cover for those under the rest requirements. It takes very little time to register and vote (less the 5 mins). Let's come together and get this bill passed!

I just dont want to pay for it, I will have 1000 hours before I get out of a piston plane, and I will put in alot of hours in a Kingair with someone else in the other seat watching me till I can go solo with it, so I would not say I am not putting in my dues, but if I could go to a regional at 1200 hours, that would be nice, I make a lot less than you guys do flying jumpers, my 2nd or even 3rd year pay still is not 20 grand, and I fly over 100 hours a month (we are part 91).........Also I would love to go to a regional and get my ATP as part of moving to Capt., instead of costing me a few thousand, but I do hope it passes after I get my ATP lol

If as you say, you end up "soloing" the King Air, there is a pretty good chance the company will let you use the plane to take the ATP.

Like someone said above, it passed the House by a large margin. I watched some of the Senate hearings on it on CSPAN a few days ago. Everyone I saw was in favor of it and most were saying they wanted these reforms put in place immediately. Some senators were pushing the FAA administrator to move quicker and enact some of this stuff by himself before the bill is even signed into law.

So, my guess is it could be as soon as 2010, or as late as 2013. As the bill is written by the House I think you get 3 years grace period to get the ATP. But, I also think the FAA could move quicker on it's own if it so desired.

In any case, I would be shocked if you didn't need a 1500 hour ATP to get hired to fly part-121 by 2013.

I am for this bill, but without the loopholes I have read about. I mainly want better rest/duty rules and hopefully this bill will be a step towards better
pay.

When I say solo, I mean have the time for the insurance...I also am not paying to use that for it, we are a jump op, they dont care if I have an ATP, cheapest way to do it would be up at Action Air multi's in Groton CT

Remember that you will have to find a way to get some cross country time in those 1200 hours.
