Colgan Hiring....one last time

I know the first two threads have been shut down, so lets try this one more time. This is not a thread to persuade/dissuade anyone about the company, just info about people that interviewed this past weekend and your experience.

Also, did anyone hear anything about their interview this weekend? Get called for a drug test?

wmuflyboy 01-27-2010 04:17 AM

you are brave

i suggest looking at the other closed threads, finding out who interviewed and PM-ing them for info.

jdalbrec 01-27-2010 04:31 AM

i'm not trying to make anyone mad, so sorry if this comes across as insubordination and i can't pm anyone yet...i've read the all the other threads and there is some good stuff in there, but toward the end people were starting to talk about outcomes and i was just wondering if anyone had heard anything

Bucky28 01-27-2010 05:21 AM

I know of three people that got called for the drug test including myself. No offers or anything, just going to take the test this week. Hope that helps whoever wants info

Yea..if they are flying you in to have a drug test then they are going to give you an offer as long as you pass. So study hard for it:D

NoStep 01-27-2010 06:14 AM

Just curious why they don't do this when you're interviewing? (pee-test, that is). Or, do they do the "astronaught-physical" thing?

Getting sent for a drug test is a good thing. Put it this way, if they didn't want to hire you they would just let you know right then and there. But spending money (drug test) is coming out of their pocket. So... I would think that's a good sign. When I got hired at Colgan there was about 11 interviewing and only 8 of us went to get tested, which actually were hired. Good luck guys! Hope to see ya on the line.

Just got the Phone Call. Yay drug test, never been so happy to have one of these before.

rickair7777 01-27-2010 07:28 AM

For the record...

Some folks expressed their issues with people taking a job at colgan. It is certainly a crappy bottom-feeder, and I would have not recommended it a year ago but they have voted in a union and are taking steps to improve their situation. Risky, but it has possibilities.

Isn't Colgan owned by PNCL?

socalflyboy 01-27-2010 08:14 AM

I have heard they are going to do pref. interviews for the furloughed CAL folks..does anyone know if they are hiring f/o's only or are they hiring any street captains? Good luck to all who have applied.:)

I don't know for certain. However, I seriously doubt there will be any street captains. I will do some investigating for you.

As of today no street capts. There is plenty of FOs ready for upgrade. So we should be good to go.

I usually agree with your posts but not in this case. Colgan is what it and all the regionals are - a stepping stone for most. To all who aspire to fly for a career, get hired as quickly as you can and start building experience so you can create greater opportunities for yourselves. Disregard all the negative and self-rightous complainers on these forums. Get hired, develop your skills, gain experience, and have fun.

Amen!! If you decide that a regional is the place you wanna be for the rest of your career then I would nit pick the likes and dislikes, qol, pay, etc... But as he explained all regionals for most of us are stepping stones.

From my understanding via a buddy who was there on Sat and Sun they usually use AA's medical center at the Medporte however since it was sunday they were closed.

ALso my buddy got a contingent offer earlier this morning best of luck to those who interviewed:)

The regionals are not much of a stepping stone anymore... with upgrade times going upward of 5 to 8 years. The regioanls are now almost a career. If Colgan is a place you want to spend the next 5 to 10 years then more power to you.
Pinnacle is bad enough for me, I hear doing the Colgan is worse (if thats possible)

BeaglePilot 01-27-2010 11:11 AM

I would not be suprised if they hired a CAL furghlough into the left seat of the Q.:D

Most regional pilots are going to either spend their career there, or spend way longer than they had expected. Be prepared to live with your choice, or face doing a lateral transfer at some point.

There are many outside factors which affect the airline industry in the long term, and unlike the past, none of those factors look good right now...

Security Threats: These increase industry costs, and the associated hassles drive customers away. Nobody wins except government rent-a-cops who get fat benefit and retirement packages.

Oil: When will we really run out? Who knows? I don't even have an opinion on that, only that it will probably be within our working lifetimes. The only organizations who have the resources to make an accurate prediction all have some skin in the game, and cannot be relied upon to give us unbiased answers.

Carbon Restrictions: The hardcore environmentalists really are out to get you, they have stated that air travel is a horrible waste of resources, an exorbitant source of emissions, and totally unnecessary for most us. They really do want you to just stay home (exceptions made for the cabin-class private aircraft of the green political elite, of course).

No way to know what the future brings, but a lot of bullets have to be dodged in order for this industry to have a bright future. And every setback gives management another excuse to cut compensation.

You may be exactly what management is looking for...someone who will carry the weight of the world on their shoulders for little more than beer money, in exchange for what may well be a pipe-dream. Even better the regional managers do not have to do anything to make good on that "promise". They know you will leave, either hired by a major or fed up with the prospect of life at an entry-level job. They don't care which it is, as long as you leave before you get too much longevity.

With over 9000 posts, This may be the first time you do not have an opinion on the matter at hand.

It may be rare, but even I know when I cannot make an educated guess ;)

Is that "in our lifetimes" a non-opinion opinion?:D

For a page and a half, this thread stayed on topic.

Good thing Rickair came along to add a bit if drift....

Okay, so let me get this straight.... I should THINK about the ramifications of a career decision I might make?
