I love props but the caravan is a piece! Good luck flying that thing in ice. They say ice bridging does not exist...well than fly the caravan. Not only that but the engine would vibrate in moderate icing, bad enough to leave your ass fully clenched. Its junk.

Some of us cut our teeth driving the Van. So sorry that a guy or gal making about two times what a regional FO makes, flying single pilot, and only having a VOR and ADF flew his aircraft near red line and slowed you down.

I currently fly a plane a good bit faster than a Van or an Arrow, but if the pilot is driving the bird hard, and making a couple bucks, then I am willing to slow down.

Heck, when I was driving the Van, I often had to slow inside the marker because I was doing 170 and the guy in front was only holding 130. For the record, I cannot count the number of times I have had to slow the mighty Saab down for an RJ, or 74, or anything else. But I figure, we are all making money and doing our best, so live and let live.
LOL I flew for the sad god forsaken evil empire (PW) in HI and in GA and one clearance I got was Best Forward Speed OK 178 ... Past the marker tower says I am following a Sky West RJ best forward speed. ok again 178 then 500 feet from the threshold tower says continue but not cleared to land waiting for the RJ to slow down and exit. Tower says to fly as low as possible with out touching my wheels and as slow as possible with a landing clearance to come as soon as Sky West exits. I still got off at Delta.

O wait no longer there due to trying to make it a respectable airline. If I only knew

I read all 5 pages and still don't know. Did anybody ever figure out what happened with the GA Skies Caravan shutting down the runway in ATL with trucks around it? Or did this just become a jet vs. prop, I've-gone-faster-to-a-shorter-final wienie roast?

Oh goodness.

We had one guy that was assigned the ATR out of new hire, right about the same TT experience . . . but I don't remember if this guy went to Riddle.

Remember his initials? Still active, or furloughed?

heard they blew a tire on landing... got stuck. delta offered to tow it off the runway for a fee and the pacific wings owner refused to pay delta and insisted on flying in his own people from ATH to deal with it; but apperently ATL airport operations had a slight problem with having an active shutdown for 2-3 hours so someone went out there and snagged it.

that sounds about right for PW. They are a bunch of idiots. Treat their pilots like crap. Treat the customers like crap. Im so glad I dont work there anymore. Maintenance issues all over... pencil whipping.... cutting corners. Eventually someone is going to die.

Oh and dont ever think of refusing a flight over maintenance or weather. No matter your exemplary employment and training records... you WILL get fired.

BTW
How does GA Skies dispatch/fly in known or forecast icing with aircraft with no de/anti ice equipment on the aircraft? I have noticed that some of the Vans have no boots.

I don't know when GA bought the Vans, but around 2006 Vans changed to weeping wings.

You are correct, some of the GA Skies birds came from Hawaii with no boots. They do not have TKS, they are not approved for FIKI. They tell you to go VFR if it's 1000' and 3 miles vis and viola, problem solved, for the guys in charge anyway. We don't have dispatchers at all. The flight crews file and fly their own flight plans.
