I'm flying an old turbocharged piston as fast as I can to minimums single-pilot. How did you earn your seat?

And yeah, we're slow, we slow people down when we're 20 or so miles from the airport, but I can also do 180 knots to a 4 mile final and still be stable.
Well said. There's too many "jet kids" in the regional industry who think they were born in an RJ.

I used to love people telling me the ATR was a pig and a POS they'd never fly. Then I'd invite them to j/s with me and see what it could really do Outrunning 777s on the parallel into ATL by holding 200 to a 2 mile final, yet stabilized approach by 1000' was always a trip.

Why'd it have to be Asian? Why bring race into it?

I remember riding on a repo in a 9K 402 to BOS 10+ years ago... We lined up for 33R with a 737 on final for 33L a few miles ahead. We were actually catching him, doing 170kts or something. Of course, we landed on the 2500' runway too. I have a lot of respect for that single pilot flying, especially with the weather in New England.

C'mon guys. No need to jump up and scream bloody murder over one post about speed. I could care less about how fast you really go. A plane is a plane is a plane, and I'm in the business to fly planes, not CRJs, not 747s, or 172s. Whatever gives me a paycheck. I merely thought it was humorous that he was going "so much slower". Sorry for hitting a nerve.

off topic... Let me also clarify that I am fully against the ATA position of user fees for business aircraft. I do NOT believe that non-airline traffic is causing congestion in the airspace system. I think that's a load of hogwash from people whose interest involves having their airline do 10 flights a day between Podunk State and LGA, just "because". So, really, slow airplanes... who cares!

200 to a 2 mile final, but at that point you're still above 1000??

ASA once had a guy in initial training with around 300 hours. He was FURIOUS when he was awarded the ATR. Told the chief pilot he went to riddle to be a jet pilot.

Chief told him he could be in ATR class on monday or fly a jet for somebody else. I would have fired him on the spot. I'll bet our furloughed guys would be glad to come back and fly the A-T-Ra.

I would've killed to get the ATR or Brazilia when I had 300 hours. You will learn to be a real pilot in those airplanes.

man I would have loved to have flown the ATR! that is what I wanted to fly when I came to ASA but they were not putting anymore people on it. I was lucky enough to have 4 check airmen from the ATR in my RJ systems class. those 4 guys were awesome and flying with them would have been a trip!

What an idiot. With 300 hours he didn't belong in either plane, but that's another story. I was just starting to CFI with 300 hours, where being responsible for a 172 was more than enough to keep me occupied. 300 hours in an ATR or RJ...Jesus.

Speaking of the ATR, I've been bidding ATR CA vacancies every time they come out to do that in Guam. I'm not big on going to Guam, but I mean...C'mon, ATRs in Micronesia. That's just cool.
