Default Question for Telex 850-using CRJ pilots

Do any of you guys have this issue?

I keep the volume switch on LO because if I keep it on HI, the cockpit chimes and alerts are extremely loud. On LO, I can hear myself talking on the intercom only when I'm talking to the captain, but if I'm transmitting on the radio, I can't hear my own voice or if I do, it's very very low.

Does anyone else have this issue with their Telex 850 on the CRJ-200?

Try turning on your intercomm hot mike switch when using the radio.

I did have that issue as well in the CRJ-200; as a matter of fact my ears are still ringing from my mistake of setting them to high ... I simply placed the switch in middle setting and it work much better for me...

I have an Airman 850 and a Bose QCII w/U Fly Mike. In the CRJ-200, I don't use the 850. At the high gain setting, the chimes make my ears bleed and on low, I have to have the intercom all the way up to hear the other pilot. It's a shame because I love the light weight and comfort.

In the CRJ-200, I just use the U Fly Mike. Way mo better, IMO.

I'm putting my lightspeed up on Ebay so I can buy an 850. I'm sick of the size of the headset and wanted something lighter and from what I had read I thought the 850 would be the way to go. Would you users of the 850 not recommend making this switch?

Yes, unless you leave the intercom switch. It takes a little getting used to.

About those lightspeeds, the company will give you $500 towards the Zulu's if you want.... I had the old headset 30-3g, traded it up towards the zulu. The zulus are extremely quiet and light weight.. not bulky either
