Ads that run on Airline Pilot Central

Is this for the benefit of airline management? This is a board for pilots right?

This was a running add in the margin above.

"In today’s economy, a company cannot afford to be down because of a labor dispute. Safeguard your business by hiring Modern Industrial Services, Inc. . . . . . "

I think in order to keep this site free they need to run ads. Unfortunately management has all the money so you usually see their ads or ads for ATP flight school. Makes me sick and makes me wonder why ATP bothers to advertise here. If anybody starts a thread that says, "Hey guys is ATP flight school a good choice?" they are quickly ridiculed for a poor decision.

Many of the ads on APC are generated by an automated system which attempts to match ads to the context of the discussion in a thread. Doesn't always work well on specialized-topic forums.

If you talk about mesa bankruptcy, you get ads for personal bankruptcy attorneys.

If you talk about airline labor issues, you get ads for labor-lawyers.

I've also seen some ads for Honda Pilots

What in the world did I say to get an ad for eating disorder counseling?

Ads vs Adblock

Websites use bandwidth.
Surfing utilizes the bandwidth
Bandwidth costs money
Ad space provides the money to pay for bandwidth
Adblock denies the website the ability to earn the ad money

Not saying it is right or wrong. But using adblock is kinda like bringing your sack lunch into a restaurant and sitting down at their table.

so are you saying I should quit skipping commercials on my DVR as well? or throwing out the ad section of the Sunday paper?

There's other ways of presenting ads... like how gmail does it. I frequently click on those ads because they're smart, snarky, or just flat out make me want to see more. None of this epilepsy-inducing flashing BS.

If it's bright, flashy, prone to inducing medical conditions, and hogging the resources of my computer, I'm blocking it.

Riddle me this... if I block all the bright, flashy, resource-hogging, bandwidth-grabbing ads, am I not saving the website money by saving the bandwidth?

For the record, I'm not above pay subscription pilot forums (I'm certainly not speaking about FI, I never paid for that). In fact, I kind of like Pay Pilot Websites... keeps out the riff-raff.

Willi,
For the new guy, what are some of the better pay pilot websites out there?
Thanks in advance,
Aloha
