Jumpseating to Key West

Hey guys the wife and I are looking to non rev down at some point, probably out of ATL. Are there generally weight restrictions going in? I can understand coming out cause of the short runway, but just curious if we could encounter problems both ways because of weight. Anyone know the best way to go? Gulfstream is usually pretty easy but they're all full this week. Thanks!

Agree. Many airline pilots live in KW and drive to Miami because non-rev is so tight except in July and August. Don't even think about it during spring break.

Typically, a CR7 can depart ATL for Key West with no weight restriction. Obviously, this is based upon MEL and CDL items on the aircraft. I can't speak for the 737 though.
Departing Key West, we average 64-67 people. If we are carrying alternate fuel or have an MEL/CDL item that affects fuel burn, it becomes less. I've seen the payload reduced to 50 people on a CR7. On most days, the station requests volunteers to accept ground transportation to Miami. Again, I can't speak for the 737.
Long story short, your chances of getting to Key West from ATL are not bad as long as there are a few open seats. Keep in mind that we do have a few ASA pilots that commute to Key West and they have the opportunity to reserve the jumpseat 48 hours in advance. I would not recommend trying to leave Key West, though, unless the ATL weather is good and loads are light. A bus fare to MIA might be worth the cash instead of worrying about getting home.
Good luck!

The Republic 175 in/out of CLT can go in full. Getting out is usually restricted to 76, give or take. Heard of someone going out full on a cold day with a good headwind, but not something to count on.
We vacationed there in November and went into FLL for $150 round trip. Figured it was cheaper to do that and drive than deal with the stress of non-reving in just to get stuck there and have to pay for another night in the hotel.

I would take Cape Air from RSW, my fiance (my girlfriend at the time) and I flew down to Key West for the day since we where staying the week with my grandparents in Naples. This was a surprise for her! We took the early flight out of RSW and had about 6 people on the flight, it took about 50min to get to EYW. We got in early and walked from the airport to downtown (don't recommend it unless you really like to exercise! lol) and took her around the island and showed her different places since it was my 3erd time down there. Before lunch I took her to the light house and we made our way up to the top and that's where I gave her the ring! =) We then ate at Margarita Ville, after doing some shopping for the family we ended up taking a cab back to the airport which was expensive but worth it lol. We took the last flight out and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. On the way back to RSW we where the only ones on the 402 to it was like having your own personal plane and pilot despite the fact I wanted to be the one flying. Sorry, I like telling that story! The Cape Air employees are awesome, they where all friendly and very helpful. I have done the drive, it is not bad....but I would never do it over. Have fun in Key West! PM me if you need help finding things to do.

We (RAH) can take 86 down there most of the time and I've taken 86 out of there once. It was a colder day with about a 10+ headwind. I've regularly taken 80 out of there..but usually around the 78 people range is the limit on a regular day. If CLT is bad weather..it goes down to about 70'ish.
