Current Colgan class were told yesterday that they were merging with Mesaba. How come no-one is saying anything about it?

The transaction is a continuation of a consolidation trend in the regional sector and positions Pinnacle as a strong player in the field with ultimately an operation for jets and another for turboprops. For now, however, Pinnacle, with about 7,700 employees, will continue to operate three subsidiaries – Pinnacle Airlines Inc, Colgan Air Inc and Mesaba Aviation Inc. The idea is to merge Mesaba and Colgan. Mesaba would be the surviving carrier because it has the infrastructure to support a large turboprop airline, according to Trenary. Colgan also flies for Continental, US Airways and United.
"Over the longer term, we anticipate that we can enhance efficiency and growth opportunities … by reorganising around two operating airlines," said Trenary. "Our intent is to combine the regional jets under Pinnacle Airlines and the turboprops under Mesaba Aviation. However, there are many complex issues to be addressed, and this will take time."

So I just got an email for an interview at Colgan and there are a couple of things I'm wondering about to make me consider it as an option. Do you think that the new Mesaba/Colgan airline will go to Mesaba's pay scale or to Colgan's? Also, how long do you think till Colgan pilots can bid DTW as a base?

We will be pushing for at least the Mesaba contract plus a percentage I would imagine. The Mesaba contract is a bankruptcy/concessionary contract already.

I can tell you right now that will not fly with the Mesaba guys...we have been under that contract since the bankrupcy and we want better...now, the XJ contract is the best contract out of the three, but there are things that must be improved, the status quo is not acceptable...

I agree, there are many hurdles ahead for us at Mesaba. Lets hope and most importantly, work for the best possible outcome.

I wouldn't count on the Mesaba bases surviving since Delta's original plan was to ditch the props. There's hope that those bases might stick around but I wouldn't count on it.

Its still considerably better than Colgan's pay scale. Also, what will happen to Mesaba's furloughee's?

The union and company are actively looking at bringing the furloughs to Colgan and Pinnacle. The details such as pay and seniority before and after the integration have not been released to the pilot group as of yet.
