No, they wont discard it. They are telling people to put that stuff in their checked baggage. But it has to be a bag you checked BEFORE going through security. You wont be able to get through security and then "gate check" stuff. Basically, you are not allowed to have gels or liquids in your personal possession inside the secure area.

You can check your bag, and TSA will not (or SHLOUD not) "discard" it.
As far as jumpseating. I have talked to a few of our pilots, no one seems to have problem so far. As long as you are in uniform.

I think once you are through security, you are home free. However, I think they are doing random screenings as you board the aircraft so you might run into trouble there. Only saw a random screening once on the last trip i was on.
