i dont work there, i did work there.. for 9 years-- lets just say i have a vested interest.

i think if they dont get as many furloughees to "come back at first beckon call" and it would then require mandatory recall- they might think hmmmmm- noone came back willingly due to the possible future unrest of the company IE the company stating openly they are gonna shut the place down if it goes to proffer.

its a tactic , just as they use-- nothing more-- do they know, sure but its as far as a side wants to go with the bluff/preparing.

if u need to go back, go back, if u can wait and hold out til next year--- thats a no brainer too.

People are getting out. Unless we're getting new flying, all these recalls are for attrition.

I wish I could frame that. In one paragraph it explains everything that is wrong with this profession..... priceless.

USMCFLYR !! DE727UPS are are you watching this??? Airhoss !! It is the future of aviation right here and they are coming for your jobs. Half of a mailman's salary...

And to think of all that education and training. It is over. A job that can not be outsourced yet here we are being displaced by a generation that is willing to work for nothing.

Well we can all still hope that he was being sarcastic...

What is wrong with people that are flying because they love it????? I think you are just a bit jealous and man, I hope you aren't like that in the cockpit because if so, I feel soooo bad for people that fly with you.

You are also saying that "you are being replaced by a generation that is willing to work for nothing". First of all, what do you think we should do? Not show up at work? See how far that will get you. Or maybe go to my boss' office and tell him that I want more money? Guess what he will say?
Since you seem to know it all about this industry, maybe you should give us tips on how we should all go about it because I'm sure its going to work.
If we walk out, there will be another group of people that will replace us anyways (and it's like that in any industry) and management knows it very well. You can huff and puff all you want but you ain't gonna change anything anyways.

"It is the future of aviation right here and they are coming for your jobs." Nobody is coming for your job. Stop coming up with BS conspiracy theories... It's not like any of us will go to your boss' office and tell him that I want to take over your job.

All together I think you got yourself into the wrong industry... You know what they say, if you love it you should let it go... LMAO

If the older generation was not giving their jobs away in exchange for paltry raises (i.e. scope) then your slam against the young guys would be appropriate. But, it is not.

I think you realize that most of us enjoy flying but are not so fanatical about it that we would do it for half a mailman's salary for our entire career. They lure us in with the promise of higher wages 'someday' and that situation has been created exclusively by the generation before us.

Actually skyhigh, I hope in 30 years time I can look back and say it was my generation who took back what the old-timers gave away. It really peeves me when people trash-talk my generation you see, as we are the ones who will face far more hardships in our adult lives than those who worked through the golden-years.

What you're suggesting is that I, and others, sit on the sidelines and throw away the thousands of dollars invested in this profession to hopefully better the QOL of others. Meanwhile, we're to keep in mind that by sitting on the sidelines, hundreds of other pilots will happily/eagerly pop up and take the jobs that we collectively turned down. We'll further keep in mind that while the pay isn't glamorous or even great in most cases, those that chose to take the job will be moving on to other opportunities long before anything is ever "fixed".

While I understand that the mentality outlined above is the mentality that doesn't get anything accomplished, I don't exactly see a mass revolt happening in the airline world. If/when you or someone else can organize a mass revolt against airline management, I'll gladly throw in my cards/chips/first born/whatever and join the fight. Until then, I'll go to work and carry on with my life. Sure, I can go dig ditches, deliver mail, harass people on the phone, or whatever for $$$ more than what I'd make at a regional, or I can sit in a seat and watch the world go by AND have a job that I enjoy doing for less pay. It's a tradeoff that I'm willing to take.
