If thats your mentality on the industry why don't you go to any SWA forum and b*tch about how most went out and got 737 types out of pocket. I'm sure you can remember a time when airlines paid for your training! Though I'm sure you wouldn't fly for an airline like that cause they corrupt the system. Yeah right...

If $10,000 was all that separated me from a good life long career job then yes I would pay for a type. You guys are paying a fortune to get educated and trained and continue to pay through the acceptance of extended low wages. Anything to remain in the saddle.

In my home town the most successful asphalt company, fencing contractor, real estate investor and excavator all have one thing in common. They all got degrees in aviation and are commercial pilots but quit the profession because the pay was so bad. Now they have successful businesses and are able to support their families.

The only way things will get better is if people stop showing up for the job and choose to have a life and make a reasonable living.

I just got a chance to check the forum, you know work and all. Let me set the record straight, when I said I was coming back because I love to fly, I was referring to the quote on the first statement. Don’t give that " i love to fly BS". I wouldn’t come back if I had to repeat the first or second year salary again, but come on, you cant live off of 35,000 a year? That is what I will be coming back to, yes its low but I can support my family on that. I mentioned that I would be taking a pay cut from my current employer the USPS, just to show that is the reason I am going back, because I love to fly. I already have health insurance, and if I want to get current I can go to a local flight school, and pay around 200.00 and get in the sim. I am not young, nor have I ever had money, referring to the trust fund quote. I also find it insulting that you would belittle the profession that I had to get into in order to feed my family and keep a roof over their heads.

Gary,

By your admission the USPS pays twice as much as your flying job. You also have mentioned that you already have health insurance which leads me to believe that you are getting it from your spouses form of employment.

You have described yourself as "not young, nor have I ever had money". I don't know how you can justify being away from home for a job that pays half as much as a mailman and even try to feel good about it. You are cheating your family out of income that everyone needs for your own self serving wants.

If you are indeed an adult then you should be considering putting the needs of your family ahead of yourself. The long term effects of pursuing aviation over a stable career in the postal service does not make sense.

Love your family more than your job.

I feel sorry for you. Your priorities are not right. I cannot afford to live on $35,000/year. I let my wife be a stay-at-home mom though to take care of my kids while I'm gone.

gary0724 12-12-2010 02:01 PM

My wife has been a stay at home mom for 15 years now. My family always come first. I am so sorry for you that you can not live off 35,000 a year, I have never made over 24,000 a year, until this year when I was lucky enough to land a job delevering mail, And we have lived just fine. I own a house in a very nice neighborhood, my wife and kids love me, and they all have told me how much happier I was when I was flying and would love for me to go back. My god how superficial are you that you cant survive off a decent wage. I know people making min wage, 16,000 a year, and less that might be struggling, but can live off that. On top of that, 35,000 a year is just when I first go back, hopefully in 3-5years I will be captain making 60,000 - 70,0000. Also as a mailman, I work Mon-Sat 8am-630pm, and I work, Im walking up and down hills, up and down steps sometimes 40 feet usually around 10 miles a day with up to 70lbs on my back, and make 52,000 a year, that is with my overtime, twice what I made my first and second year at TransStates.
But really, I cant wait to come back, and hopefully we can all get along. I really look foward to flying with all of you. I dont think I am going to do this forum thing any longer. I thought I would check it out since I have been out of the aviation industry for almost 2 years now.
Peace be with all of you, and try to stay positive!

That's awesome!

And Gary, don't pay attention to some of the idiots here. I bet some guys don't have the same support from their families that you do...so you got that going for you man. They've probably never being held as a baby either. And the irony is that this lack of love turned them into spoiled adult cheerleaders.

It's the "me, me, me...my, my, my" annoying spoiled attitude at its best. Grow a freakin' pair and fight your own fights! And show some respect for the hard working furloughed TSA guys...come on now!
