Default Polarized Sunglasses

Does anyone have experience with polarized sunglasses in the cockpit? I have heard that since some of the instrument faces are polarized, pilots should avoid polarized sunglasses. Is there any truth to this? Up until now, I have avoided polarized sunglasses, but it seems that more and more sunglasses are becoming polarized lately. If anyone has any input for or against polarized glasses, I would love to hear about them. I fly in an Embraer jet if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

I fly the EMB 120. We do have EFIS screens and it does not affect them. All other gages are old school and same thing. Just some rainbow affect on the windows, but not enough to be a problem.

Polarized shades are pretty much no bueno in any airplane. Expensive airplanes tend to have polarized windshields, in addition to some display faces being polarized.

I fly the E135/145 and I haven't had a problem with polarized sunglasses. I think its because the screens in the Embraer are CRTs and not LCDs.

They don't work in the MD-80. The windows are obscured and many digital displays (the digital numbers) are not visible.

Depends on the plane I think. I've always had polarized (good for fishing! ), and never had a problem in the cockpit until I started the EMB170. After my first trip I bought non-polarized.

wow, thank you all very much for the quick responses. I guess I will have to try them to find out if they will be work for me, but since freezing boy flies the same jets and has no problem, i feel better about trying the polarized ones. I've always loved the Revo brand, although they are very pricey, but it seems they only make the polarized kind now. Any suggestions on good non-polarized sunglasses?

The most popular, as I recall, were Ray-Ban, Serengeti, and the good 'ol military issue (American Optical, etc.)

Are they CRT or LCD screens in the 170?
