Skywest info needed
Need some basic info on SkyWest please....
Are they only hiring in to the Brasilia at the moment? Also, what is the most likely new hire base and how long are captain upgrades expected to be on the CRJ and Brasilia? Thanks! |
Great, another guy looking for a quick upgrade....
|
Only hiring into the Brasilia, yes. FAT is junior. Upgrades are looking like 3-4 years on the Brasilia, longer on the CRJ.
|
what is the likelyhood of the RJ for ORD?
I couldn't care about the a/c, as for upgrade, when it happens it happens. Just the pay is a big factor (2nd yr) and commute from NYC. ORD/IAH/DEN, with how many SKW is gonna hire, will they ALL be to the BRO or some RJ? |

Get over it, go to the bro, I commute to fat from mco and on the bro for 3 years. The way things are going you will hold a line out of training vs being on "perma reserve" in the crj. Plus if the hiring continues you could go to the crj in a year after the seat lock. There are rumors of hiring to the jet soon but as you wait you are losing seniority. Pay is the same on the bro vs crj first year, and knew of guys that didn't want to go to the bro back in 08 when I got hired that they never got a class, since all they wanted was the rj.
|
How long do you have to be in the emb or the crj to hold SFO or LAX?
Thanks. |
SFO is just a reserve base of 2-4 FOs, lax is possible out of training now that all of us wanting to go to the jet are getting awards. Fat is the most junior and the largest of all the bases with the best chance to be a line holder. Plus the commute isn't too ba to fat. Just beware of the FOG

Skywest is the new Mesa.

Commute isn't bad, it's LONG, but it works. Some trips as of late start and/or end with a deadhead so I can commute into SFO or lax for the trip. Again for fat you can commute into from EVERY base west of Dallas to FAT, plus SFO(FedEx) and ONT (UPS). Lax is my commute to FAT city of choice if a trip starts in FAT due to the last 2 flights on UAX are crjs plus you also have eagle.

I would agree that SKW is no Mesa and the line is still very distinct but the Mesafication of SKW began long ago.

What are the hire dates of the junior EMB captains in LAX, PDX, and SLC?
How about the FO's in those bases? What do the typical trips look like out of those domiciles? Thank you. |

PDX FO: 9/10 LAX CA: 03/07 LAX FO: 9/10 SLC CA: 7/06 SLC FO: 12/10 FAT CA: 4/07 FAT FO: 12/10 Most JR CA just awarded has a hire date or 9/06 but the upgrades are increasingly going more JR at a rate much higher than the RJ. I’d say 80% of the pairings system wide (except SBP) are 4 days trips with a relatively equal spread of start and finish times; the rest are 3, 2 and 1 day trips. 4 day trip credits vary between 15-28 hrs, with less than a hand full below 17 and the overwhelming majority around 20. |

Do most FO's have a crashpad in FAT? I can't imagine too many people actually relocating over there. Do most trips not take you back to base there?
The trips that end late in FAT, where you miss the late LAX flight on Eagle, SFO, LAX on SkW, most just crash in the crew lounge till the first flights out the next morning. Plus our Fresno "DEN MOTHER" is the BEST..... |
More info, latest beat from the jungle drums...
Starting to hire into the CRJ, as well as the Bro. Recent interview group half 121/135, half CFI Typical times > 1500, with at least several hundred ME. Internal recs are vital right now. |

So how junior does SBP go? I realize you have to cover both SBP and SMX. What's a day in a life for a reserve on the Bro?
And what are the flight benefits for SKW? Do you get both DL and UAL or just which ever flying you normally do? I'm familiar with DL benefits, so no need to explain that all out. |
Whats the chance of getting SLC out of training?
|
You get UA and DL travel. UA is pretty much the same as DL benefits, but you have to pay for first class, and BUDDY PASSES ARE $$$$$ (not really worth it).
SBP has become a senior base with the latest SBA closure. SLC is quite possible now with all those transitioning to the CRJ in the next few months. As for day in the life of reserve, the best person to ask is NEWTY, he knows what its REALLY been like on reserve on the bro. |
Since there is hiring onto the CRJ, what is the hope of the RJ in ORD?
This is my #1 choice, it's not not about the aircraft for me, it's about the base. |

8 of the CRJ, UAL furloughee, new-hires were awarded ORD right out of training.

Just scheduled an interview with SkyWest for Feb. 16th. Just booked a room at SLC Comfort Inn Airport Suites for the night of Feb 15th, two queen beds non smoking. It is about as close as you can get to the Interview, and I already got the SkyWest rate. PM me if you're interested in splitting a room.

To be honest, some move and rent an apartment, some have crash pads, stay in an airport hotel, some even sleep in their cars in the parking lot, but many of us that commute to FAT (including some FAs), spend the night in the crew lounge if our trip ends late in FAT, or we commute in the night before. Surprisingly the crew lounge is large, plus there is a shower in the bathroom. The most I have seen spend the night in the crew room was 8. Just frowned upon where there have been reserves LIVE in the crew lounge for their multi day reserve periods.

I thought that was frowned upon since that Colgan accident...... I remember that Colgan is now turning off the crew lounge lights at night now to discourage this type of behavior.
Turn off lights, room is more conducive to rest, so instead of being an uncomfortable option, they say, "this is bad" but make it easier to sleep/be more comfortable. Now if they were to install high intensity lighting (like they use for night road construction), and turn off the heat or a/c, then they would be onto something. |
As per posting by KB, here is the tentative training schedule:
New hire EMB FO Class Feb 28 April 4 May 2 May 30 CRJ FO New Hire and Transition Class Feb 8 (has 6 new hires) Feb 28 Mar 8 Mar 28 April 5 April 25 May 3 May 30 June 7 June 27 July 5 Hope this helps |
I saw on the awards board in the SLC crew room that the March RJ class will have new hires in it of the non United furlough variety I assume.. Seems we have arrived at the bottom of people willing to go to the rj in IAH or MSP. So new hires can expect either the bro or the other plane, the uh, fixed pitch prop with a cowling over it, if you take it you'll be making more than me in exactly one year.

Do you remember the employee # (not exact, for privacy purposes) of the junior transitions?

Tfayd.................

Well NTFAYDD then. I just thought maybe you remembered it off the top of your head.
Since we aren't into helping each other out with information we already know in favor of making a snide remark, I looked it up myself. 358XX number was the most junior EMB-CRJ FO transition. |
