I'd say whatever headset you have at the moment. I'm still using the DC's I've had since I started flight training. I'm getting a little sick of the vice grip, but most of our flights aren't long enough to make it an issue. I have seen a lot of people using the Telex 750's, but I still think it's a bit too loud for those. Especially when you're using go home power on the last day. I have heard some good reviews about the Telex 850's though, which are only $399 here: Telex 850 Headset. To my underrstanding, that's really cheap for an ANR headset. Especially one that's powered off the headset jack itself so you don't have to worry about the battery pack.

Telex 850. Plan to replace a lightweight headset about every 3 years if used for general line flying.

ok cool, i had some nice telexs but they are just too big and bulky, also to tight on my abnormally large head (sorta joking), so i have been planning on buying a new head set for quite some time, just trying to decide on the right one. Thanks for the input

My preference was the 850. I used a 750 when I first started and it worked ok, but the ANR was definitely nice. The telex lightweights are comfortable (and don't require batteries which I think is a bonus), but they are lightweight and prone to getting beat up overtime in a flight case, hence my comment to budget to replace about every 3 years.

I've used the 750 or 850 on all of the various jets I've flown (CRJ, Citation, CL604) and they work well.

Cool

When I first started flying the CRJ I went out and bought the telex 850. I was really disappointed as I could not hear anything. The Noise canceling didn't do anything. The CRJ is quite loud up front and having a quiet headset is pretty important. As one poster said the legs are not that long. However since the legs are short you use the radio 4 or 5 times as much. After doing a long 4 or 5 leg day trust me you will be ready to rip that headset off your head when you are done.

My recommendation is a full around the ear headset. I bought a DC X-11 and I think it was worth the money. Very light and I have used it for 3 years no problems yet. I would also say try the bose but I have seen numerous pilots with broken parts on their headsets that made them unusable.

Most CRJs have a telex as a spare for the jumpseater. Before I bought a telex use your regular aviation headset first as it will work fine and then try out the telex. You will see it is not a really good option.

After you fly for awhile you will see guys using all kinds of stuff so don't be in a hurry to spend your cash.

You must be working for a rich company. All ours have DCs in them.

Seriously though, I like my 850s. Thy could be a bit quieter, but I like the fact that my ears are not completely covered like say, Bose. The cable could be a bit longer so I don't have to readjust the cable between my takeoff and landing posture and cruise posture, but I'll take my 850s over any cover the entire ears headset any day.

Yup, 850. Compact, lightweight, cheap (for ANR), and best of all requires no batteries. It doesn't have as much noise-cancelling as larger models, but it's enough for the CRJ.

I started off with the 850 but didn't like how they'd hurt my ears after about 2 hours. I bought the Bose X and love them. If you buy off of craigslist or ebay you should be able to sell your headset for whatever you pay if you don't like what you get.
