Well, I certainly wish your friend the best here but he might want to speak to the director of training and clarify that they are aware of those failures. There was a guy in the class right before mine who got fired the day before he was going to start IOE before he had 3 failures and only disclosed 2. According to his instructors he was a great pilot. They were very clear to us on our first day: fess up now because if you lie and the PRIA comes back different it's mandatory termination. I think 2 is the max. I had a friend walked out of the interview because he had 3.

Thats false my man. Also, Colgan doesn't do the hiring anymore. Its Mesaba and candidates have to be approved by Pinnacle. More than X-amount of Failed rides is termination once PRIA comes back

Dont everyone get their panties in a wad. I was just trying to perk up the folks that have 3 failures and not to give up hope. Keep trying if thats what you want. I had to work extremely hard to get to where I am. It will pay off if you dont give up.

Keep on trying. The spotlight on checkride failures is powered by ignorance of the media and legal departments. It's truly disappointing that regional airlines couldn't come up with real methods of screening applicants based on past performance (not all checkride busts are created equal). I still can't believe that certain 141 schools are failure-free (for the most part).
I'm certainly not saying that notices of disapproval are "OK." I'm just saddened that failures in one's formative years somehow scars them for life. Add the utter inconsistency in checking seen at the GA level and you have an invalid gauge of someone's performance.

sure thing. I had my medical taken away. So I know the pain of a dream slipping away. Took four years of fighting the FAA to set things straight. I had people telling me to give up and do something else and that I would never fly again. Well... I now hold a first class with no restrictions. Don't let anyone tell you that you cant do something. There are ways to get what you want. You may just have to take another route.. keep instructing, maybe get into the 135 world.. establish a track record of passing checkrides and you will be fine.
Good luck!

Pinnacle hired a buddy of mine recently who had 3 failed rides. But he had significant amount of flight time.
Republic hired someone with 4 failed rides but he had more than 5000tt.
Having more than 2 failed rides is not good but its not end of the world.
