Default Starting Pay for Pilots/Copilots

This is from a list on Yahoo! about the best jobs for new graduates. Pilot/Co-pilot was number 6 of 10 on the list of "Jobs That Pay New Grads the Best."

6. Airline Pilots/Copilots and Flight Engineers

Beginning Wage: $54,460
Median Earnings: $110,590

I wonder how many days into ground school the new grads will be before one of them asks the grizzled vet teaching them the CFM, "I think there may have been a mistake. We're supposed to be starting at a little north of $50K a year".

The instructor will probably start laughing so hard that someone will call 911.

It's probably an accurate starting wage for a first-time airline pilot...who has 2000 hours in an F-16.

And what is the active duty service commitment in the Air Force these days? I think it is 10 years "after" you get your wings. Looks like a sizeable pay cut for them to make the leap --- plus they are already half way to retirement.

If you fly this shiny jet today, I'll gladly pay you a hamburger next Tuesday.

questions: i have 251.344 hours, 19.231 multi - give or take a few hundredeths. i here the job market is really heatin' up brahs. do you think their is a chance of gettin on bored with some jet time? im tired of flying in indian country LOL.

i dont care about money. i would even fly for free. $54 thou is way to much more then i need to crash on. chillaxin with the brahs is a big expanse, but i can cover that with about $18 thou. that covers a lot of PS3 games

also, if I get hired by skiwest or chatakaw (flying a jet they're would be sic): what kind of hedset, sootcase and rollerbored do i need?

oh ya and i needz me a lether bomber jacket with iPod pouch. witch won?

Comment on that ATP rule all you want. It would surely fix most of this. Not a complete solution but I bet you would see a lot less of it.
