Definitely not a flame... I wouldn't say it's a joke for most. I have a big family though and my premiums would be nearly insurmountable if it were not for my very high deductible plan. I would say that it is similar to health care plans through out the work force today on the whole.

As for work rules however, that's another story. We have (IMHO) fantastic work rules. Thumbs up to the company on that. As I mentioned before though, it can only be said that they are so in the context of this part of the industry as it is today. They were definitely better in the past.

What? You mean to say that merging airlines can suffer a quarterly loss in a global economic downturn. Say it ain't so!

I agree with your main point though, things can change. If we're doing good at SlyWest, I feel lucky... if not, I feel normal.

Would have been easier to "blend" the whole family. But the bottom line is we are glad to have insurance and have the company pay for part of it.

I'm glad I have insurance, but I'm sick and tired of Mesa not paying their share of the premium increases. They keep passing that onto us. I'm paying almost $11,000 a year just for my wife and I for their "premium" coverage. My cost at Kalitta will be $40 per person per check to 5 years, after that it's free. Mesa and their hard stance on not giving an industry standard contract and pay rate will sink them quicker now than what they think.

When it's starting to cost you more every year to work there because they are being cheap a$$es, what incentive is there to stay.None I can think of.

IMO it's gone far beyond just being cheap...OJ knows they are doomed in the long run so he's just squeezing as much cash out of the operation as possible. He will use his accumulated golden parachute while the employees ride the ship into a smoking hole. Too bad they couldn't have flushed him during BK.

SKW gets flying and Mesa loses it.

I find it perversely enjoyable that SkyWest is taking over this flying - may the best man win, right? Ironically, this means I have to worry about getting furloughed, or getting displaced to IAD or Hawai'i because of JO's and ML's (mis)management of the company. My sincere congratulations to the boys at SkyWest for stepping up.

It'd be nice if this event would serve as a wake-up call to JO and his cronies, but we all know this guy would sell his grandmother to make a quick buck. These guys will never be held accountable and will never claim any responsibility for Mesa's downward spiral. Rant over.

Easy killer..... The pilots at skywest have no parts of this, not their fault... This is purely a management (Mesa) f**ck up.... Mesa pilots suffer because the planes are gone, and sky west pilots keep flying planes that were headed for Tucson....

Not a stab at you my Mesa friend, but skywest pilots are not to blame for this mess....

If any of you "Pickers" out there have a lead on any used engines, we would really appreciate it!!!!!

Hi Everyone!

These comments were recently made on a website and forwarded to me. I am curious if anyone else has heard anything about this? As you know we are facing a rather acute shortage of CF-34 engines and was trying to figure out if there might be more engines available sooner than we anticipated. In the alternative we will have to purchase new engines to support Hawaii and the last six months of flying with USAIR which is something we would prefer to avoid. I appreciate any insight anyone might have. I know the news has not been great recently but we are continuing to do what we can to secure both new and existing flying.

Comair Shrinking More And Faster?
New word coming from Comair is that the airline may be smaller than originally projected and much sooner to boot.
Information leaking from Comair is that they will be down to flying 9000 hours by February. That's 10,000 hours less than they are flying right now and they will drop to 6000 hours by July. Comair was supposed to be shrinking to 44 aircraft by the end of 2012. Their 70/90 fleet has 28 planes and is flying 8000 hours. There is no way that 6000 hours could support those aircraft, 16 CRJ's and 500 pilots. Looks like the 50's are on there way out the door as well as 200 more pilots than anticipated.
JB has said publicly that Comair was 6 months ahead of schedule to reaching their targeted goal of aircraft. What he didn't say was the target was now much smaller.
