I'm from Oregon and want to stay in the west if possible and ORD, MSP, and IAH don't sound very appealing to me but I'll go where the job takes me! I'm not too picky, I'll be happy from DEN and further west, but my first pick would be PDX then SEA.

You can have a standing bid in for as many domiciles you want, just list them in order of preference. Such as PDX, SEA, SLC, DEN, MSP, ORD, IAH, and so on. When SGU looks for transfers, and lets say they want to put someone in DEN, they'll pull up everyone that has a bid in for it, even if it isn't their first choice. When you have the seniority to hold it, and there's an opening you could get something further out west. When we're busy, like now, it could be possible to get a new domicile assignment almost monthly. Bids that have a higher preference than the one awarded will stay in the system. You can also have bids in for other seats at the same time.

One thing to remember though is once a domicile is awarded you have five days to accept or decline the transfer. If you decline there is a six month lock in your current location.

Utah, that's very helpful thanks for the info!

Do you get guarantee and/or per diem during training? And did we pretty much establish that LAX on the RJ would not happen out of the gate?

Are you thinking of trying to go to Skywest? I am regretting not applying back in late winter, early spring when the hiring started.

They called me for an interview. I've had a couple recommendations there since before I started here. I'd be remiss if I didn't explore my options, though I don't know if I could afford the pay cut. I've flown 5 hours in the last month and a half though, so I honestly just want to go someplace I get to work and not sit around. I have no idea if I'd bail if they offered though. It'd be tough.

If the hiring continues into next year you guys would be in a good spot, there is the chance of being a line holder pretty quick and/or the domicile of your choice, however if hiring stops or slows down significantly you could be sitting reserve for a while. If what people are saying about the majors hiring is true then it might not be for too long as attrition picks up. It's a gamble for sure.

I didn't realize the pay was that different at Skywest. Does Skywest have better bases for where you want to live? If you do go to Skywest you also have to sit through weeks and weeks more of classes and training. The future does look bright there though. One other thing, you have to decide how it would look on your resume making lateral moves when a furlough was not involved. If hiring does pick up at the majors then you will gain seniority at any regional, not just Skywest.
