Public opinion of Pilots

Clarification
They are not all bad. However, you must avoid pilots with big watches, those who wear their hats when hats are optional and those who wear their uniforms on their days off for any reason. The good ones take their ties off once in the cockpit, give their FOs most of the legs and drive older cars.

At least I drive the right kind of car (1998 4 door Corrolla with 198K miles on it)
When people asked what I did, they would say "ooh, a rich pilot?" Nooo, a military pilot

lol, I'm not even an airline pilot yet and I've gotten all those things. There are commoners who lectured me about the time they flew in small turboprops and how dangerous it was, and of course everyone is shocked when they hear how much CFIs/regional pilots make. Yesterday someone I know said that the mailroom of his company is hiring, 30k/yr.
...
But we all hope that someday we'll make enough (as pilots) to actually be able to pay all the bills in one given month and get those student loans out of forebearance.
Oh, and I've gotten unsolicited advice and lectures from strangers and mere acquaintances alike, about the family situation. They would tell me things like they would never date a pilot (that's assuming I would ever date them!!), how do I plan on getting married or have a family with the kind of job and lifestyle I have, etc etc. It's friggin annoying.

Yeah my girlfriend is constantly asking me, "well what if 20 years from now you are making good money and another "9/11" happens and we have a house and three kids?" Kinda scary cause I really don't know what I would do, everybody tells me to save money, but i don't see how thats possible

Speaking of females. . .
My wife already has the good career. . . but she wants to stay home with our kids during their first 5 or 6 years. No problem with me. She understands that if something horrible happens, she will have to go back to work before she wants to.
