Can't speak specifically about SKW but airline backgrounds are a joke. A simple FBI isn't going to show anything. I wouldn't worry unless you were convicted for something that they may not like(DUI, murder, running around naked in the woods, etc.)

Now go through a LEO background and that will make your head spin. And they have to do a psych interview to boot(maybe something the airlines should consider, albe they won't).

If you are a mormon you get away with anything.. there was a guy in my class that had a criminal history for assault.. he was goody goody with the management and his stuff was looked away...

I heard that once there was some Serbian or something that was pulled out of class because he had some war crime from the Bosnian war on his record.

The psyche interview has famously sunk many people at Delta.

Ha, when my department hires a recruit class of 50, they have 5,000+ applicants to pick from. They can afford to do MMPI's (psych evals) and the polygraph. That $hit doesn't work, I know completely normal people who have answered honestly and gotten the boot, while completely whackos have lied and passed the thing just fine.

I would hope the airlines never do this crap.

Example Questions: (yes or no)

I hate my mother

Flowers make me happy sometimes

Much of the time my head seems to hurt all over

I have often wished I were a girl. (Or if you are a girl) I have never been sorry that I am a girl

Everything is turning out just like the prophets of the Bible said it would

I hardly ever feel pain in the back of the neck

I have a cough most of the time

If people had not had it in for me I would have been much more successful

I used to like drop-the-handkerchief

I have had no difficulty in starting or holding my bowel movement

.....just an example of some.

Your probably right. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around this, though.

It's very sad, if true, that management and recruitment spend time and money snooping around these boards and Facebook profiles of their pilots and flight attendants who have sacrificed everything, including financial security and family relationships, to be part of this industry.

It would seem that the sole purpose of announcing that this practice takes place to groundschool students seems to only promote intimidation amongst new hires and those who strive to join the ranks of professional aviation.

It will be very sweet to see this arrogance backfire.

The fact is, web logs like this didn't exist ten or fifteen years ago, and now young folks planning their career choices can see the truth as spoken by the people who actually work. Commercial pilot practical checkride applicants are down nearly 75% from 10 years ago.
So, I say to those who snoop for management.

Profile this.......

That only means to me that one would have to assume that a certain APC member is who they think it is. And to take action that might jeopardize a pilot's career on an assumption sounds like a legal bear trap. I'm sure the lawyers in HQ have thought this one thru.

Also, doesn't one have to "friend" another on Facebook to allow them into their page?

I wasn't implying they cross reference apc with FB (they may?) but simply if they see a picture of you in uniform doing something stupid (say, posing inappropriately w a flight attendant or at home but in uniform with a beer) or writing something derogatory about the company you will hear about it and may face discipline up to termination... It wouldn't be the first time.

I seriously doubt they attempt to monitor rank-and-file pilots on the forums.

But managers and recruiters do check out the forums, mostly just to see what's going on in the business, and if somebody says "I'm interviewing next week", and then discusses some stupid background issue you can bet they're going to connect the dots if the person gives up much info about themselves.

An applicant who is discussing how to hide his criminal past or his checkride failures who is not very carefully about personally identifying info will get figured out. Remember, they can view your entire posting history...there's probably enough info there to match your forum posts to your resume.
