Drop ALPA to merge ASA, XJT, and SKW into one
#11
We should drop ALPA, merge all three companies and form the Skywest Pilots Association. I really wish we could all rise up and get this done. Do you realize the position this would put us in as a pilot group? Such a large group covering so much flying, we could really do some good. Let's try to get this done!!!

I'm all for dumping ALPA and merging all three lists and have an in-house union, but again, the Skywest folks won't go for it! They are afraid of their precious bases and most guys don't see a benefit for merging. A lot of those guys over there think Skywet saved ASA and XJT and they are entitled to more. I've got a lot of friends at OO, and unfortunately a lot of them drink that St. George Kool Aid.

I think ASA/XJT would have to vote out ALPA and form an in house union that didn't have the "Sure Jet" name on it, or whatever will surface for their new brand. SkyWest guys have shown that they're incredibly skiddish about who represents them. Many who want a union still seem to like the team we have in SAPA right now and would probably rather stay with them than vote in a team of "foreigners." Just my insight for the ASA contingent.

Also inhouse at regionals cant work because of funding. It is dumb to think that people making 50k a year could get the same protection with 2% that one could get with alpa.

Wouldn't matter. Bid D, UAL, and USair could still move aircraft away from those companies to lower cost options. They would still be just a small jet contractor and still have to compete on cost with everyone else.

Yea, and good riddance, I just don't know what to call the future combined pilot group..... maybe SkyEast?
I personally believe that any SkyWester who thinks INC will look out for OO before ASA/XJT is a little delusional. They wouldn't have gone through the trouble and expense of buying and merging the two east coast giants if they were gonna just let them decay into nothing. SkyWEST may've just won a few small bids (20 AC total), but we're also slated to start losing 50 seaters before too long. I think the three, soon to be two, airlines under INC are in this thing together now. There really hasn't been any whipsawing yet, but why give management the option? Together we're much stronger than apart IMO.
Can you blame them? Skywest is growing while asa/xjt could lose 40 airplanes in the coming months (27 ual erjs, 8 dal crj7 and 6 dal crjs). Why would you want merge with an airline that could furlough 400? Xjt and asa people could push skyw people out of their own bases. Dont believe me ask pncl captains that are now fos because xj saab captains were displaced into pncl a/c. Skywest pilots, Look at the pinnacolaba slaughter and ask yourself if you want that as your future.
