FMLA = no limit on # of occurrences and no company repercussions as long as you are still eligible for FMLA.

I'm new to this contract talk, what is FMLA?

Yeah, the guy did have kids so I'm sure he used FMLA for those sick calls.
On the other end of the extreme...when I was in class last year a guy upgrading to Captain pointed out a fellow from his class picture on the wall in the training center. He told me that guy got fired for calling in sick 11 or so times his first month! Those are some excessive sick calls...but I still think there had to be other issues going on.
I flew with VJ recently, our union rep here at Eagle. He told me that despite what many people think..the union does indeed protect proabtionary pilots. In fact he told me he had stood up for 2 probie pilots within the last month alone and saved their jobs from immenent termination.

So how hard is it for you guys/girls to call in sick? Is it as easy as waking up feeling bad, call scheduling and go back to bed? Or do you have a bunch of hoops to jump through? Also how are you paid when out sick? Or are you just off without pay?
on a different note FMLA gets abused far to often

It's believable and know line holders that have more than 36 days. Even have been told by chief pilots that since we can't get days off to just call in sick. Unless u show a pattern of calling sick on lots of weekends and major holidays, a note at SkyWest is not needed or has seems to be rarely been asked for from what I have ever heard at SkyWest.
