Eh, it's like when I was in the Marines, you always had someone calling himself a Marine while in training or sometimes even before the training started. Big Negative!!!! Don't jump the gun, once you pass you can call yourself the best pilot in the world for all I care, but you are guaranteed nothing til you pass training...so yea noone likes a newhire claiming something not earned yet

As a EWR 145 FO, I can tell you, get a crashpad. You're life will be a living hell if you expect to get by without one. I'm a lineholder, and it's a necessity. The guys on reserve are spending most reserve blocks not flying. I think this holds true for all bases, FYI.
