Pagey, what airline do you work at? I think it's complete BS that it's up to the fsdo or poi to interpret the regulations. What's the point of regulations if their open to interpretation?

The answer is we dont need an FAA really. Its just there to make the public feel safe. The FAA adjusts the regs based on airline demands. At psa, one of our new chief pilots doesnt even meet the min requirements for the position. 3000Hr 121 pic. Psa just got a waiver from the FAA. What a joke.

The ATP requirements allow "SIC as PIC" to be used for Total PIC, PIC XC, and PIC Night. We have a requirement that the SIC must have a signoff in their logbooks with the PIC's signature to show they operated as "SIC as PIC". Logging as PIC can't be done, however keeping track as "SIC as PIC" in it's own column would be simple enough, or just mark those pages you acted as PIC. We don't have an MOU with our CMO (Certificate Management Office), this is straight up in the regs, however for the purpose of proving you acted as PIC, a record needs to be shown to show you meet the requirements.

As far as the ICAO restrictions: This changed back in 2009, but nobody really caught on til this last year. It changes to the requirements of "Annex 1 (Personnel Licensing) of Article 39 of ICAO" (Good luck finding it, you gotta pay to get it). Our CMO looked into it and found that for Airplane Multi-engine land, it is 1500 hours of total PIC time, of which all SIC may be counted towards that provided that aircraft has an SIC required for operation. For an aircraft that doesnt' require an SIC, but company requirements require there to be an SIC, I believe you can use 50% of the SIC time toward this. This ICAO restriction only limits flying PIC in the states, so after a year on-line, any Company DE or FAA inspector could remove this restriction with the proof of time.

I thought they were really more demanding: I sent an app with 850/51, a couple days later I got the thanks but no thanks e-mail! Also with good training history and Engineering school grad. But sure, I do not know anyone there!

The 250TT guys were getting hired in 07, and are the ones looking at upgrade now. I don't know what it's like to get hired here today. Higher times are probably required now.

Baronrouge, when did you send that app in? I got hired at piedmont about 5 years ago, I believe PSA was hiring with low Mins then too. Things lately have been a lot more restrictive just because airline hiring has been so stagnant up til this past year.

I applied about a month ago and got the no thanks about 3-4 days later...

Our poi's interpretation of the regs will not allow us to count "pic time as the sic acting as pic under the supervision of the pic" because you need a type rating for the dash8. It's not even allowed for the purpose of upgrading.
