i actually think its going to be the exact opposite. i think the reason they delayed the report is because you can't ask for cuts from the employees when the numbers look good. i think they were planning on us already having a concession deal by now. our on time performance was third in the nation during the fourth quarter. that means not only do we not have penalties like last quarter but we get performance bonuses. i still think we need some streamlining to take place and the united stuff needs to be profitable. i also think we will give some concessions as far as training and vacancies go. we will see soon enough i guess.

Menkles last e-mail is quite shady. I would have to lean towards the were doing better then they want us to think conspiracy.

Any idea on what they will do to vacancies to save money? Adjust 11-09 or just change the rules for future vacancies? Has anyone heard anything about any possible future vacancies/re-alignments?

Add to that the latest union email from Wednesday night. It said that their financial analysis did not see ANY need for a permanent wage cut while Menke says that we can't survive without one. Somethings gotta give, but I think we are in for a surprise, hopefully a good one.

Normally your posts are factual and worth reading. But what is this mythical performace bonus? Does it reside amongst unicorns and mermaids? Or am "I" and "you" not included in "we?" ;)

ha yeah. i should have said the bonus applies to everyone but the people popping the brake.

as far as profitability if the 9e 200s and the mesaba 200s and 900s arent getting penalized then we are operating at a profit even with colgan operating at a loss. just like it has been for the last 4 or so years. i understand they want all parts to be profitable but it shouldn't come from the group that just got its first pay raise in seven years less than a year ago.

That letter doesn't pass the smell test.

I like how he only mentioned ALPA when it came to pay cuts. No mention of FA's or mechanics. Unless I missed it they haven't voted on consessions yet either. Looks like they are already pre-blaming us for anything that falls apart.

In fairness, SM did come right out and say a PERMANENT pay cut. No false promises of a snap back.

It's kinda like a proctologist saying, "You aren't going to like this: I'm out of lube."

At least he's honest.

Sounds like it. From the tone of it, I don't blame our negotiators for walking away from talks this week.

Imagine being told that these cuts have to be "permanent," all the while our finance people don't agree and the company won't show us why it needs to be permanent.

I'm going to tell my bank that the mortgage needs to be less and they just have to trust me that I can't afford the current payments.

As I said, doesn't pass the smell test.

I am glad i am not the only one that is questioning his letter. He seems like he is trying to make sure this stays negative. Employee morale is low and we had some short term good news and yet he wanted to make sure he pointed out that BK may still be the best option.

maple 02-24-2012 07:18 PM

I don't work at PNCL, but I have seen the letter your talking about. I saw it though Yahoo finance page. Do you guys really think they want to keep it negative and show it to investors?

I do work at pinnacle and I happen to believe Sean is being completely truthful as he sees things. I do believe that he sees a true need for permanent concession to get this company on solid footing.

I just happen to not care. No is my answer to any pay concessions. You can easily save 5% permanently by forcing your SOC to run more efficiently. Until then, you are asking me to subsidize ineptitude.

maple 02-24-2012 07:58 PM

I saw that term SOC in the letter. What does that stand for?

Sh!++y operations control.

Here's how to tell if the company is actually performing poorly as stated: If said company is a U.S. airline, they are performing poorly.

Agreed...there is probably a need for some cost cutting but as previously stated I do not subsidize ineptitude and years of miss management. The day we get the bonus checks back from all the inept bozo's who ran this company into the ground I will consider a 1% permanent pay cut. OH WAIT we wouldn't need one if we had that money!

Let me rephrase...

At least he's honest in telling us we will NEVER see that money again.

FPTTLD!!!!!

Anyone hear more about those 5 new Q400s sitting in Toronto painted in United colors? I've seen them myself but no tail registration yet.

What investors? Financially strong individuals with investment acumen do not put money in airlines anymore. Let alone regional airlines. It will be a long, long time before big money comes back to the table in this industry outside of ownership and that has dwindled down to the ridiculously wealthy.

Any big investments come from using the company's money in the market or through the sale of corporate bonds. The terms of the bonds have nothing to do with union contracts. Those are simply risk factors in a 10k.

Look closer at the correlation between lowered employee pay and upper management bonuses.

jayray 02-25-2012 07:03 AM

I'd like to hear how they are going to lower the rent on the new corporate pad by shedding the Saab and Q flying. The fixed costs aren't going away, the Union better not give them any relief in a shrinking scenario. Why was the situation so dire in December? They wanted a resolution by the end of the year but here we are, just a few days from March. I don't believe anything they say. They can threaten me with BK all the want, it won't change my mind. If chapter 11 will fix all their problems like they are pretending then they would have done it already.

Just another move out of the old management playbook. I believe this came from the chapter, "So You Want to Start a Sham Bankruptcy?". It's kind of like a firefighter starting a fire so they can run in and save the day. Except when Menke puts this man-made fire out, the stock price will jump and he'll have lower labor costs than some of his competitors, and management gets bonuses. God forbid he actually put his MBA to use and earn his $425,000/yr honestly.

What is so bad about asking? They are there it only makes sense to wonder if they are ours or not. They need to announce something eventualy.

I apologize if it seems I was attacking. I'm just getting tired of those kinds of rumors. There has already been a whole thread on that and I was hoping this would stay with the financial topic. We'll see new airplanes when there on property, until then its useless speculation. We saw this when there were unmarked 900's up there and they weren't ours.

The short answer: They are not ours.

(See that Milk Man, I can make a serious post. But, in fairness, it is only because I cannot think of a snarky reply. :( )
