No Calls

That stinks that of all things that is going to be my issue. I flew 5 days a week, single pilot, Cessna 404, single pilot in a lot more weather than any pattern pounder is going to see. I'm also willing to bet my scan is just a little faster ;-)
Did I mention some of the terrain in my normal AOA was 14,000?

I'm in the same boat. Plenty of hours and experience, but no calls. Been flying privately and keeping up on currency. It just doesn't seem to matter these days. I will be going into instructing once again to at least keep up some hours. Last summer I went to Eagle for an interview, made it to review, but got eventually turned down. They did hire a bunch of 500 hour wonders with the training contract, though.

Well I could go get into a C210 pretty quick but I've been holding out a bit for some more multi time. I'd hate to take the step back into light singles. Would you guys recommend chancing losing currency in hopes of my interviews with Great Lakes, Ameriflight, and a local survey company going well?
Flight Express has asked me to come flying some 210s and occasional BE58s for them but the run would have me living away from my wife and there are no jump seat agreements. I'd be cooked.

Seriously though where are you from? Have you tried Cape Air? Your times are pretty good, you should get picked up. Just stay current in anything, don't worry if it's a light single. They are big on currency right now, get your ATP written if yo don't have it.

Your eyes can move as fast as they want, but it's all about interpretation. A good instrument scan is not about how fast you can move your eyes around the instruments, it's about how you can interpret one instrument and then know what the others are probably doing, hence why the scan revolves around the AI. And if your eyes are wondering all over the cockpit you might want to work on your scan!

You could have bare minimum flight time, a deferred DUI, no ATP written and multiple arrests/speeding tickets, etc but so long as you show up to a job fair with a clean look and respectful/friendly attitude you'll get an interview. Landing a job has very little to do with what is on your resume and criminal record, its far more about if people can tolerate you on a 4-day trip. I can't speak for every airline, but the vast majority seem to require an internal rec. or showing up and speaking to a company representative somewhere. Inefficient, silly, and ineffective in screening for good candidates. Probably, but its just the way things are done.
Just to reiterate, the above scenario is not a hyperbolic assertion, it a first hand observation my company's hiring practices. Focus your energy in the right areas and you'll get an interview in no time. It isn't hard to network, but it takes a certain amount of pro-activity, a trait lacking in our current society...
Good luck!

Well you guys were right, my scan may be a bit inefficient on something with glass. Going straight from a G1000 C172 to an ERJ may have helped. If I was going to hire someone I'd pick the guy that has seen a few moderate plus icing and turbulence nights alone with no auto pilot and no glass in a plane that is 30 plus years old. I know it doesn't not directly translate to regionals but the freighter CAN FLY. It's a guarantee if he or she lived past the first week in 135 freight.
I am actually checking the Native American box. I'm a mix but no one needs to know that ;-)
I interviewed with Cape Air about a month ago but they picked a guy that had 2x the experience and seemed like a very nice guy too boot. I don't have any issue with that and I'm sure I would have done the same if in their shoes.
I also interviewed with Republic and I hear they are hiring some pattern pounders. Not sure what went wrong with that interview. I really thought, as lax as it was, that they would have called everyone in the group. I must have said something wrong but seems how there were really only a few HR questions and a bunch of questions about my military reserve duty I have no idea which answers were 'wrong.'
