I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe they're conducting their job as professionally as they can with the resources they're given (which aren't much). It isn't too much of an exagertion to say that the training department has been a charlie foxtrot since, and even a little before, the merger.

Nobody quit or is crying. People are still staying at the same hotel as before. Lots of prop>jet guys have been failing, that part is true. In many cases they have been given over 70 hours of OE and still can't pass their fed rides. Ask any 9E FO who has flown with a Saab captain and you will hear some really shocking stories. Many of these guys have never flown over 250kt, or any big airports. You can't blame training for people biting off more than they can chew.

Is this primarily CAs or FOs too?

The only people having problems are Saab CA > RJ CA. With all the XJ furloughs who came over as FO's, I never heard any problems.

Is there a similar correlation for Q400 pilots transitioning to the jet? If so, I’d be a bit suspicious of the 9E training department giving 9L pilots a harder time than usual. There is a much smaller jump going from Q400 to 200.

What happens after 250kts? Do you get a pin?

PS: The part about big airports is BULL****. Unless BOS, LGA, IAD, and IAH are small airports...

I agree, if a new hire can overcome most of it during IOE so can a captain who is transitioning from a T-prop, of course if they are up to par! Not knocking on the Colgan guys!

It is actually a trophy. It is supposed to be hush hush but here is a secret photo taken from one of the actual ceremonies.

However...
On a serious mod note..lets not try to make this a jets vs props debate..we have plenty of those on APC already.

Fly782 03-30-2012 12:30 PM

If its so hard to transition why didnt the XJ Saab guys have problems in years past? Seems it may be a little of the training dept. or am I wrong about The XJ guys?

After 10 years of being on the SF-340 the tranistion wasn't that big of a deal. I feel bad for anybody getting caught in the politics of the SLI. Good luck to everyone in training .
