I think management's desire to get this done is giving us some amount of leverage. Hopefully it will work out for the best. |

Does anyone know if hiring is still going steady? I have heard everything from still going strong, to hiring drawing down for the summer.

Last I heard there was at least 1 ERJ class in May, but I don't know anything beyond that. Brad's update came out today and oddly enough mentioned nothing about hiring, unlike last month when he said we had three classes. I can ask around but at this point I don't know. I'm sure it's not going to continue at 3 classes per month in the short term, though.

HOw many in a class?
If anyone reading this has a firm May class date at XJT, I'd like to hear it and what date you start. |

To my knowledge classes have all been 16 pilots. Occasionally some are current employees coming off long term leaves of absence, so not necessarily all of the people in each class are new hires, but most are. There were three new hire classes in April for sure. I also know for sure that there are two upgrade classes in May. But I don't know about new hires this month. I'm asking.

Thanks for the update. I'm in the market for a new carrier, and am trying to beat the rush.

Do you know the washout rate? If not, no worries.
Bottom line is that if you study and put in the work, there is no reason you shouldn't make it through the program. |

No, but I don't think it's really high. Everyone in my class made it it through. We all bonded pretty well and worked together. We have "training gates" at different stages through the process. You get extra help and some extra chances if you bust one. From what I heard it's a "three strike" kind of thing.

agreed. ive just heard they can ask some really obscure questions on the oral like how much do the tires weigh. Or why are there v1 cuts on 13,000 foot runways. (j/k)
As for your V1 cut question I don't know if you are asking why we would practice them on a 13000 ft runway or why there could be a difference between V1 and VR even on a 13000 ft runway, or something else. |

I have no idea how much the tires weigh or why in the world anyone would care as long as they are inflated properly and remain attached to the airplane at all times ;).

Exactly 3 weeks and 3 days after my interview. |

On our flight ops page it just mentions a single class in May - the 14th that the other guys were referring to. I think it's just that single new hire class and two upgrade classes. Hopefully more to come! Updated attrition hasn't come out yet but we've been losing about 15-16/month on the ERJ side, so that's about 1 class of pilots each month. But they may let attrition whittle us down a little for the slower months then pick up hiring towards the end of the year. Who knows? I've just learned to take it one month at a time and to try and not get too caught up in it. |

I have been in the hiring pool since January. Good luck on the 14th bud. |

I'm an alternate for that class date. I'm crossing my fingers, but making the class is contingent on someone dropping out or deferring which I believe is unlikely.

why would you say its unlikely. just because of xjt reputation?

I'm not sure what you mean here. Been here a long time through many training cycles and have NEVER been asked any an unfair, oddball question like those. If you're talking about interview questions, those may be more about personality than getting a right answer. They just want to see how you handle the situation. When I interviewed eons ago, during the HR portion of the interview I was handed an approach chart for somewhere in Mexico and asked to determine the distance I would fly from the IAF, along a DME arc, to the FAF. I thought for a second then started trying to give them a precise number but then the pilot interviewer asked what method I was using to get the numbers. As soon as I said the "1 in 60 Rule" that was it, "Thanks, go wait in the hall please". Forty five seconds later I had the job. I'm still convinced that they do that because they want to see how you react when thrown a curveball.

Well, I got the job and I have no idea what the "1 in 60" rule is, other than apparently it's the rule pertaining to the number of girls I have to date before I find one that isn't crazy :).
Seriously though, I got a good laugh from your post. |
