Regional FO -> Mainline FO directly?

yes. this happened all the time in the "hey day" of the 90's hiring. Many Eagle FO's applied to AA as "outside applicants" and were hired way ahead of internal Eagle flow-thrus on the flow thru hiring plan

Im guna help you see how foolish your comment is. What ur saying is, if a black, because you mention the civil rights marches, cant shoot a single eng ILS, hand flown to mins or balls up an abort on his/her checkride, they will still fly ur family around simply because their black?!
I thought we had come a long way, but maybe not.

What I'm saying is, reverse discrimination is alive and well in this country. White males dominate airline cockpits, no doubt, but to allow someone in who is obviously less qualified than another simply because they are minority race and/or gender is ridiculous. The factors to getting an interview/hired should only be 1) who you know (sarcasm) 2) qualifications.
I wasn't try to be offensive, and if I came off as such, I apologize.

I'm having a hard time understanding your point?

We cant argue hiring practices need to change if we dont understand how we got here in the first place. Affirmative Action started with an executive order Kennedy wrote in the 60's. Call your congress for change.
We all know that getting an interview is not about what u know, but who u know. When has that changed? We fly airplanes here. If u cant fly them, u have no business being on line no matter ur gender, creeds or color.

Yeah well if I ever lost my medical or things didn't work out as a pilot I would go right back to being an A&P I love wrenching and I really do miss it now. Being a mechanic at a part121 union shop is a very very laid back job. So in that aspect I'm not really worried about a backup. I'm really wondering how hard it would be to get on with a major without a 4 year degree. If it is a must than chances are I will most likely start up with Thomas Edison since I can get credits for my A&P cert.

Reverse discrimination?
It is just plain old *vanilla* discrimination.
There has always been discrimination against every GROUP of some form.
It isn't just the 'flavorable' minority of the month.
Btw - when does a majority become a minority and start to enjoy the various kinds of protections?

This is going to sound worse than I mean it to, but I'm going to say it anyway. I personally know two young men of color also belonging to OBAP from my Comair days that barely had 1,000 hours. They came to Comair from WMU and were only at Comair for a few months then were picked up by Delta. I personally think that's crap. It's practically reverse discrimination in my book. Here we were slaving away trying to fight our way up and these guys basically got a free pass.
Maybe I can sue someone? Will Reverend Jackson or Sharpton come to my aid? (What exactly are they reverends of, anyway???)
So like someone else said, if you are affirmative-action eligible, you can pretty much write your own ticket. You're really in the money if you are female and affirmative-action eligible. If you're a white male then pick a number and wait on it to turn up in the raffle.
