Well don't forget about all those desk jobs that people spend a lot more time and money training (college and unpaid internships) vs a pilot, only to later get stuck at $45k working 55 hours a week glaring at a computer screen complaining about life. A few will get lucky and be able to take on more stress and hours to make 100k as a manager but most never get to that level.
Although it's a good idea, one does need college to be a pilot even at the major legacy level (Airways). But for some reason the grass always looks so much greener if you've never been over to the other side of the hill to find out it's the cow dung fertilizing it.

No "we" don't. The Top Gun worshippers do. That wasn't thought up by a pilot. We do not say that. Tom Cruise is a witch and Val Kilmer is a dried up porn-star. Do not lump pilots with witches and porn stars. Top Gun was one of the worst movies of all time. Give me a beer so I can put these flames out? Stop it...
I'm not sure what this has to do with a pilot?
Lots of Similarities:
1) Resposibillity of Handling equipment with 80,000 lbs of gross vehicle wt,
2) Pre-trip similar to Pre-flight,
3) Make sure not to exceed Gross wt,
4) Make sure the axle weights are correct, similar to weight & Balance,
5) Be ready for Inspection by Highway patrol just like Ramp Check by FAA
6) long times away from home,
7) Having driving time & duty time limiting rules......
8) Truckers can jump seat on other Trucks
9) Professional training course & a very hard check ride
10) Different Endorsements Like Doubles & Tripples, Haz Matt, etc etc
11) Need Medical every 2 years
12) Have a seniority list & get trips & schedule according to seniority at Union shops
13) Pay keeps getting better with experience.....
The list is long.....
Differences:
1) Truckers don't get Furloughed....
2) Don't start at bottom of seniority & First year pay at every new company....
3) Starting pay is better than pilots......
I will let others chime in for the differences....
