Midwest Airlines RFP
#1
Just wondering if anyone knows who else is still under consideration for the Midwest Airlines RFP. I know they are looking for someone to fly between 15 and 25 RJ's of the 50 seat variety. I heard that ExpressJet is out as is Mesaba... anyone else have any info? Let's just hope Mesa doesn't get their fingers in it... hate to see such a good product go bad!

From: 7ER B...whatever that means.
I hope Midwest isn't dumb enough to go with Mesa. Midwest has a reputation to protect. Without their reputation (or what is left of it) they are really just another glorified "large regional".

Still nothing official, other than the crew room rumors of AWAC. As I've posted in other places, no one will know anything until it's all said and done. Even our MECs don't know anything.
Midwest Connect used to be operated by Mesa back in the early 90's, but Midwest got fed up with crappy performance across the board and booted them out. They started up Astral which then became Skyway. I think there are still open wounds there and as a result, I'd be VERY surprised to hear that Mesa was even seriously considered, let alone negotiated with.
Also, it's 10-15, not 15-25 jets. But still significant.

Big Sky will get the jet RFP for Midwest when hell freezes over. I know because I work there. They are not capable of adding a jet to their ops. Big Sky's management is way too happy to fly 19 seat airplanes with 3 passengers, 1 non-rev and a lap child. It is no wonder we lose money like we do. I personally would like to apologize to the pilots, flight attendents, and mechanics at Mesaba for any and all hardships you have endured because of us. In our defense though, MAIR came to us. MTJoe, you are thinking of something else if you've been listening to the rumors in the crew room.

Lots of rumors about this RFP at AWAC. Rumors about airplanes out of the desert and in heavy mx, rumors about cookie oven demo entries in the mx can, rumors about new domiciles and when the flying will start....but they are all RUMORS at this point. Rankin coming in as CEO has many people who are normally jaded optimistic this might actually happen.
Our VP-Ops has said multiple times Midwest was in talks with two carriers other than AWAC...but nobody at any other airline has said their management has a pressing public interest in this RFP.
Should know something one way or the other before Christmas...

AWAC is still hiring. It has slowed down, but there are still new pilots coming through the pipeline. I don't expect any new classes this year anymore, but I think next year we will have some again. Attrition does continue at a mild rate.
