Believe me when I tell, these kids would take any salary to fly a jet. I'm actually quoting them.Unfortunately, few of them meet the hiring minimumns.

Makes me sad when they say "I'll do anything to fly that CRJ" that is taking-off, but I was there once long time ago, so I keep my mouth shut.
What was it like there 6 years ago? Are the students Americans?

Don't do it to us guys we are just about to ride over the crest of the Mountain we been climbing for the last five years. We don't need another boulder thrown in our pack. ALPA has a history of helping failed carriers pilots and I would be first to step up to make sure you guys are taken care of First.

Wow. I sincerely hope that you and I never come face to face in a hotel bar.

Good luck, Pinnacle. It's your airline, but we are all watching you and hoping for the best. Next Pinnacle guy I meet gets a beer. It'll be whatever is on special, but it's still on me

And I hope you and I do.

These kids won't fly a jet for free because of the stigma that comes with that, but short of that, they'd take anything. The regionals know that and the majors know that as well.

If you are a senior pilot at a regional, you would actually be doing them a favor by leaving, they'd replace you with someone cheaper (junior)
Oh I'm not talking about letting the regionals off the hook by quitting your seniority, I'm talking about once you get your pink slip. It might take a few years but if we keep the domestic hiring pool lean and the retirements starting hitting, maybe things will turn around somewhat.

Pilots who would work for free shouldn't be hired.

I agree with this statement, however, this is a monster that we, collectively as pilots from the most senior mainline captain to the most junior regional FO, have created.

I must also say that I,too, was one a poor, struggling CFI eating tuna fish and crackers to survive once and would've done anything short of selling my soul to the devil to get out of being a CFI.

Is it an ideal situation? No, of course not. But this is a problem that the pilot generation of yesterday started and it is up to today's generation of pilots to either fix it or exacerbate it.

Yeah we were all like that many years ago. I would be nice if the younger generation would listen but they probably won't.....

For those of you 9E guys that weren't around 7+ years ago. Or will still working on your PPL back then... This tactic is THE EXACT SAME as what Comair went through.. I'm not kidding..THE EXACT SAME RHETORIC..

Unfortunately too many voted for first pay freezes, and then pay cuts.... I rememebr FO's wanting to vote for it because they put an E170 on the CVG ramp. And also they figured they'd get a chance to upgrade with the freeze and cuts because of what Delta "promised"...

9E is doomed. The wheels were put in motion long ago.... Does anyone really thing taking a $2 pay cut, loosing deadhead pay or whatever else 9E has planned, will decide the fate of Delta's regional fleet plans? It's all a way to keep pay supressed..

Liek someone said. Furloughed pilots usually end up at the carrier who underbid them. So now they're flying the same routes & airplanes at a lower pay... And eventually it'll be that carrier undercut by another..

Has anyone noticed the old Gulfstream airlines is a player for delta now? Just wait.. They to soon will have jets....

That's because SB was in ops telling new, naive FOs (like I was) that Delta would "grow the dickens out of this place" if we took the pay freeze. That is an exact quote, by the way. He did it again during the bankruptcy process. I personally heard him telling that to folks in the trailer park.

He sold me for the pay freeze. He didn't fool me for the bankruptcy concessions.

Fool me once...
