DFW, Flightsafety its beautiful, I did my Colgan training at STL & HOBBY Flight Safety and DFW is amazing in comparison, sims really touchy though.
P.S. Well at Colgan I was a 1,000hr CFI witrh no turbine the systems on the SAAB are much more difficult, I came to XJT with 700 or so Turbine and man does it help, the training here has been top notch and very managible. I was always stressed during Colgan training, here I was never stressed felt very confident, I attribute that to previous 121 experience and getting through Colgans training, XJT OVERPREPARES you. Colgan just threw you in the sim. no FTD's or flows before systems, or anything like that. If you get through Colgan training you can get through anything.

I think your friend is being very honest. Alot of guys I know came from (insert flight school here). They all said that "it was a piece of cake" type stuff. The only advantage they may have had was an "airline transition" type course that might have prepared them a bit. But I know that they were working their tales off to get through with no sweat.
Make no mistake, going form single or multi CFI job to a relatively sophisticated turbo jet airplane is no easy transition. It wouldn't matter if you were an 800 hr CFI or a 3000 hr CFI. It's just a different enviorment. But as has been proven over and over, it can be done and I wouldn't fear it if I were you.

i prefer the same philosophy for your first Checkride as your first day of high school.
walk in there and beat up the biggest most senior person you can find and noone will mess with you for the rest of your time there
