Default ExpressJet hiring

ExpressJet continues to hire each month in 2005, with 15-40 pilots in each class. Minimums are 500TT/100 ME. New-hire pilots are based according to company vacancies at the moment.

Apply online only at www.expressjet.com, but as of today I was unable to get to the pilot application page. Anyone else having this problem?

I got in just fine...there was no application on the page, just a place to fill in contact info...

Is there anywhere in particular that new hires are being based? I'd really like Houston, is that feasible?

houston is their most senior base right now. chances are you would be put in Cleveland or Newark... sorry bud.

I got based in EWR, but I asked for it. It goes somethinglike this. 100 reservers at EWR 150 at IAH and 70-80 at CLE. The movement in EWR is the fastest so you sit reserve the shortest time here. You can get IAH, but if they have three openings for your class, the three most senior classmates get them first. Class seniority is based on age (boo). Mr2die4, I'm a military instructor pilot getting ready to retire from my beloved Corps after 21 years, and I'm really looking into applying to Express Jet. When you say that the senior classmates get their choices first and then say that the seniority is based on age, am I correct in assuming that you mean the older the classmember is, the more senior he is? Or have I got that completely backwards? (Maybe I'm looking at this through rose colored glasses as I could possibly be one of -- if not THE -- oldest in the class at almost 40!)

You are correct. The oldest person in the class is the most senior of that particular class. When I started at CAL, I had 8 people older than me in a class of 11; therefore, those 8 became more senior to me on the overall seniority list. As far as class choices went, there were slots for 4 Newark Airbus A300 SOs (Second Officers), 5 Newark 727 SOs and 2 Honolulu DC-10 SOs. The four most senior guys took the Airbus slots. The next five, me being the bottom of those five, took the 727 seats and the last two were given the DC10 positions as they had no other choices when it got to their seniority. The DC10 positions were in Honolulu and being new nobody wanted to commute that far so they were the last to go. Of the two who were forced to the HNL DC10 position, one quit that first day because of his perception of working that far away from home. As it turns out Honolulu was a pretty good gig as I wound up on a 747 there years later. That is how initial equipment and base selections are made. After that initial selection process you end up competing (bidding) on base and equipment openings just like everybody else on the company seniority list. Your older classmates hired the same day will always be senior to you until they retire or quit. Hope that clarifies the process.

why the hell do they keep hiring if there gonna be pulling 69 planes, its screws the pilots and them for training costs

yeah. im curious as well. what rumors are going around. i heard one about SWA having you guys do some MExico flying for them?

They are covering attrition and increased block hours from CAL. The big hiring spree to CAL from XJT has come to an end. In IAH alone we expect to have 580 lines by August. Expect 5-10 pilots leaving per month for the rest of the year. The company has to cover the flying from CAL.

Marinepilot,

I'm sure you are looking at all of your options. XJT is a good company and there are plenty of rumors about what may happen re: the 69 airplanes. All I can say is I enjoy working here and I plan to stick it out for the time being.
