Default First Class Medical - required to apply?

Would it be better to:

1) Apply to a regional with a second class medical and get it before any potential interview was given

or

2) Delay applying for 1-2 weeks to get the first class appointment and exam.

Keeping in mind that the applicant already exceed the minimums.

Thanks.

Most regionals require a 1st class to interview. If you're planning on interviewing within the next 6 months getting a 2nd class would probably be a waste.

Wow...talking about delaying APPLYING....Thats like asking if you should use plain white paper or the off-white paper It won't matter. A week or two waiting to APPLY is not gonna make a whole hell of a lot of difference.

Just don't show up to the interview with anything other than a first class medical.

Would it really take that long to get a first class medical? I could have one with in two days. Plus, if you send in resumes, they aren't going to call you the same day and want you in the next day. I would send them in and get your medical as soon as you can.

You should put that you have a 1st class medical in your Resume. Most regionals require a 1st class medical to apply. Get a 1st class ASAP and then send your apps out.

He guys little help .... I'm confused with the medical. Do you need to have First class Privilege or just the First class medical???? For example I have a First class medical with Second Class privileges since it is more than 6 months that I got it. Do I need to get a new first class before I apply????
thanx

First class privilege. In order to be an airline transport pilot you will need to have it.

Airline pilots are normally hired as FO's...you will be SIC which requires a commercial license, so you can have a second class medical or a first class medical which has lapsed to second class privileges.

For hiring however, most airlines want to know that you can actually hold a first class medical, since they expect to need most FO's to upgrade to captain someday. Most if not all airlines require you to hold a current (less than 6 months) first class on the day you interview, some may actually want you to have one when you apply.

Basically, if you are job-hunting, get a first class every six months until you get hired.

Note: If you are already employed at an airline and have a medical problem which limits you to second class medical, you can normally remain an FO forever if you like.
