Are you implying that SkyWest is the easy job to get? Clearly you've never interviewed there. They turn away more people than just about any other regional.

Not implying that the interview is necessarily easy at SkyWest. I would respect an interview no matter where it was. It just seems from reading posts on here that people go for the airline that is "hiring like crazy", low minimums, or the quick upgrade.

I went to an airline that was "hiring like crazy" and they stopped hiring the next month for over a year.

I didn't belong anywhere near an RJ flight deck at 600/100.

I've seen the actions of quick upgrade captains and it scares me. Not saying all quick upgrade guys are awful, so relax people. And I don't want to be a right seat jockey for ever. I just think it takes experience and wisdom to sit in the left seat and some people are far from possesing it.

If aviator4life really wants a job with SkyWest for some specific reason more power to him. But for my experience it seems there are better options out there if you have been turned down once.

i interviewed at eagle and skywest within 1 week of each other. both interviews were almost identical in toughness. the only differences are:

if youre a cfi or reciprocating twin pilot, you will fly better in the SKW sim (it was hell for me being a glass cockpit guy)

if you have prior turbine, 121, or glass time, you will fly better in the AE sim (ATR has a glass ADI and HSI)

there, that settles that debate.

but you cant just sit around waiting for an interview

I might consider Skywest if I lived west of the Mississippi, but that is it. I think people go for the easy hire not necessarily the best place to work. Just my opinion.

Most of the people at SKW are very lifestyle oriented and are there for the geography, that's certainly the case for me. The other good (or bad) things about SKW are secondary considerations.

Western jet regional choices: SKW, Eagle, Horizon, Mesa.

Horizon is great if you're up there, but for cali types the commute would be rough...what would you do? Mesa? Hey, they're alpa, that's a plus!

Anybody who suggests commuting from the west to the east coast for a "good" (alpa) regional is smoking something they shouldn't be.

Also, SKW is not an easy interview. It is currently easy to GET an interview due to growth, but you still have to perform...

.

SKW hires 1000/100 min, and those go to the brasilia.

New hires going to the jet usually have turbine 121, military, or corporate time, and the few CFI's are all 1500+ hours.

Oy! I never said easy interview.

reelbigchair,
I figured that the sim was it. I flew the perfect hold.... just on the wrong side. other than that the sim felt good. I've got access to a sim here at my school for no cost and i've been working my tail off in that. I'm gonna go get the approach charts for the approach. I can't remember what it was but I'm just gonna get all the ils's for Skywest airports and see what I can do. I also want to study jepps. Anyone know anything to help study those? Our school carries NOS and there isn't a jepp in the place.

I really want skywest cause of atmosphere and geography. I was really impressed when I went out there. Wouldn't mind a Bro out of San Diego or a RJ out of Denver. Both would rock.

And, to those who care, I'm not just sitting waiting for 6 months. I know the interview. I was there. I can prep a ton better. and I'm instructing like a mother and the best way to remember something is to teach it so yeah.

Anyway chair, I'll see you on the line. One of my buddies dennis is out there. He's a RJ F/O out of SLC.

I am in the same boat as you are in. I did go to a group interview and they were glad that I went there and they seemed excited about my situation. They feel that if we can wait the 6 months hen the person really wants to work for skywest. Get as much time and study as much as you can. they want 1700 total and over 500 multi for the CRJ, from what they told me. They want me but they want to wait for a bro class/hiring to start up more.
If you need some jepps PM me and and I can find a way to get them to you. Study and study then sudy more. That is want I am doing, this time I am going to be very prepared.

Hey like I said before, I'm sure you'll do just fine the second time around, it's a tough interview, but nothing most CFI's can't accomplish if they are ready. you're proving you really want to be there, and you're right, the atmosphere is like nothing you've been apart of in this industry. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about the interview or skywest. And remember, send your resume in earlier than the six months, I really don't think it'll be frowned opon.
