Second Time Around
#1
I interviewed with Skywest a few months back. I didn't get the job and they told me to reapply in 6 months.
So far I've taken this time to keep studying the ATP written, build my hours instructing, study IFR procedures, memorize the crap out of my airplane and pretty much prepare for a redo.
Ok here's the question, what's the chances of getting a second interview and getting the job in march? I was told to email my resume back out a few weeks before my 6 months were up. Is there anyone who has had this happen and gotten a job the second time and what are so tips for try two. Skywest doesn't tell you anything so I don't even know what it was that they didn't like.

This assumes that you didn't come off with an attitude, logbook issues, or criminal problems. If you were just weak on one or more areas, they will give you a another shot.

No I made it through the day. I felt good in the tech, CRM, and HR portion. The written I studied for but I didn't feel the greatest on and also the sim ride I did good with the flying but flew a perfect hold on the wrong side, after doing a perfect one on the correct side. I didn't catch that till I was debriefing him on it. But made it through the day and got a letter that said come back in 6. So I got 125 days to go.

Why do you want to work for skywest so bad? All that BS studying you have to do for a $19 per hr job which in real life equates to about $6 per hr. Why don't you go work for CHQ or XJET. I don't understand the logic of some guys I've known that wants skywest so bad.

i agree, yea as long as youre with a good carrier with good upgrade times, go with what you can get. no point in waiting now, or at least get on with mesa and get some CRJ time before you get there, it will guarantee you your job at SKW when youre eligible to interview

The logic is pretty simple...
Great company.
Yes first year pay sucks, but maybe you should look at the 2nd year pay. Don't forget the bonuses after the first year.
8 month upgrades on the prop, 1 year and 7 months was the last I heard on the jet.
PROBABLY going to get more flying in the next six months on top of what we unfortunately took from ASA.
Numerous domiciles in the west, northwest.
But really, why would anyone want to go there when they go sit in class for two months somewhere like eagle or horizon just to leave in six months when they realize they will be in the right seat for 5 years? Sitting right seat doesn't sound that bad when you compare it to instructing, but wait six months and realize that your upgrade time is still four years away as opposed to two and see how you feel???

Even though they didn't ask you to leave, I can safely say based on what you said, that the reason you didn't get the job was your goof on the sim. I'm sure that there are examples of people failing other portions, but when I was at the training center and on my interview, the only reason people ever busted was sim. It's also possible you were borderline on everything, but my recommendation to you would be to go get some sim prep before you go up there. Fly the same approaches that you remember from the interview, have someone give you practice holds, etc. And definetily send your resume a bit early. I think the fact that you're trying again after 6 months will look very good to the people interviewing you, shows you want to be here. Good luck, see you on the line.

my point is you should go to eagle and get some experience instead of just sitting around waiting 6 months to reapply. if you come back to the skywest interview already with some 121 time and possibly some rj time, it will boost your chances infinitely. skywest really heavily favors guys who come from other regionals. if you really want to make sure you get this job, go to eagle, suffer through the training whatever, and at least 6 months from now you can leave them and have a SURE thing at skywest.

What, don't you want to fly a 90 seat jet for 50 seat rates!
I might consider Skywest if I lived west of the Mississippi, but that is it. I think people go for the easy hire not necessarily the best place to work. Just my opinion.
