20 Irish car bombs!!! I guess that could be a snack...

I think ae pilots need to grow some, you know what, and hire a lawyer as a group and sue. If we get 1000 pilots to pay a lawyer bill, I'd imagine it would be affordable. We also need to organize a petition with signatures and names to have them recalled (removed).

I disagree. As the author in the OP mentioned, efforts were made to discuss the matter internally and they were quickly dismissed. Is anyone surprised? In some cases, a little public exposure is needed to help clean up faults and excess in the system. Someone grabbing subway or 5 guys on the road? I personally don't have a problem with that. Someone doing Patron shots and 20 Irish Car Bombs on the backs of the dues payers? You bet yer ass I have a problem with that.
Not disagreeing with you.

It's a shame that it couldn't be solved another way, without the public, specifically management, having a front row seat.

I agree that there needs to be responsibility and oversight when using dues money for union events. Nobody should be popping Cristal champagne and sipping Louis at any union paid event.

However, some of you need a reality check. Don't chastise union pilot volunteers for expensing meals and other legitimate expenses that occured while performing union business. You expect results from these volunteers and you want it without a cost, all the while reminding the union volunteer that they are just that, a volunteer, and should not look for reimbursement.

Someone used the example of volunteering at their kids school and not looking for reimbursement for their sub sandwich. Well guess what, we aren't running a bake sale, this is our careers and our profession. We should want the smartest pilots our groups have to offer to volunteer to represent our interests against the talent that management will assemble on the other side of the table. Try and squeeze these volunteers out of reimbursement for cell phone usage and a dinner and see what you're left with; garbage in and garbage out.

Soon the same people who complained about union expenses will now be complaining about how their union "screwed" them.

There will always be opportunists in every game, it's inevitable. However, the great majority of union volunteers do it at a sacrifice to their personal private life for the greater good of the group. If that means my dues will go to rental cars and responsible union expenditures, I'm fine with that.

The juice,

Yes...HOWEVER, they dont need to spend $1500-$2500 on dinner. What is okay is Two Appetizers for 4-5 people. An entree each person at $15. And a drink OR TWO each.

I dont think they should eat at five guys. But I dont think they should eat at a Ritz-Carlton with a $150 entry covercharge per person either at a 5 star elegante prince dress code required... NOR do I think it is okay to get fricking SLOSHED FACED with 20 shots of Car Bombs with our union dues.

A regional pilot who is struggling financially has every right to be angry when he sees his 1.95% union dues being used to turn alcohol into urine.

The fractionals use company credit cards for expenses such as car rentals, hotels stays etc. Using it to pay for a night out would likely result in termination.

I think he's referring to general attitude portrayed earlier by some, calling all union volunteers "thieves". Most were already waiting for the opportunity to pounce on top of ALPA for its shortcomings and routinely lob grenades at their own democratically elected peers, as if ALPA is a third party. It may feel that it is a third party but it probably wouldn't if more pilots took part in the process itself.

I am conservative with spending..... In Herndon an average restaurant for two will cost on average $70 with tip....... It's easy to spend $100 on a dinner for two and not mean to there..... Prices are not cheap unfortunately around that area....

So $1500-2500 bill for a night out. And $374 for drinks alone. is okay?
