CubCAPTAIN 11-22-2006 04:29 PM

CubCAPTAIN 11-22-2006 04:30 PM

Sorry, new to this, thought my last question hadn't posted, ignore

JoeyMeatballs 11-22-2006 04:37 PM

flyguyniner11 11-22-2006 04:49 PM

CubCAPTAIN 11-22-2006 08:06 PM

Hey flyguyniner11, any idea what the schedule is for training? I'm guessing the training staff doesn't work on christmas, but we'll probably spend it in the hotel room i guess. haha

flyguyniner11 11-23-2006 06:47 AM

well i'm hoping not but i really dont know

BeatsCFIing 11-23-2006 04:11 PM

hey guys, im in your class as well, where you coming in from for class, im driving to class, its easier than flying. I agree, i hope we arent shacked up in a hotel room for christmas, however, my friend at eagle says that he had double sims today on thanksgiving!!

CubCAPTAIN 11-23-2006 04:30 PM

I'm coming in from NH. Where are you coming in from? We do two weeks in Manasass right? And then 4 weeks for the rest? I'll bring the Christmas tree haha

BeatsCFIing 11-23-2006 05:02 PM

im coming up from lynchburg, but i grew up in mass, where in nh??

BCDurbin 11-23-2006 05:07 PM

Congrats!

First of all, congratulations to all of you! Anyones first bit of advice is usually get ready to drink from a firehose! My advice is study what they tell you to study - they are gonna tell you exactly what's on your systems test (taken on the last day of class). Sorry I dont have a copy!! Second, stay away from the flight attendants at the hotel! trust me on that one!!
Bases are semi-easy to get, MHT included I believe. Good Luck - BCD

Lanesuzza 11-23-2006 05:27 PM

I have an uncle that flew for a major for years. He once gave me advice that I never have forgotten.
here it goes.

"That airplane you are about to fly is a piece of sh*t and is about to fall apart. Do a good Preflight and the flight attendant you are considering putting your p*cker in, probably has AIDS".

:D

I thought I'd share that with you all.

JoeyMeatballs 11-23-2006 06:19 PM

Another classic post, thats funny stuff man

DMBinHBurg 11-23-2006 07:45 PM

Beatscfiing...

I fly out of SHD. Do you fly for VA Aviation? I get maintaince down there. I have also flow with Anthony, know him? Congrats on the job!

CubCAPTAIN 11-23-2006 08:29 PM

BeatsCFIing, I'm from Portsmouth NH/teach piper j-3. Hope the Colgan FAs don't fit that profile! :/

Business Casual:
No tennis shoes, jeans, shorts, or t-shirts.

Just wear a cheap pair of Dockers and a polo shirt.

BeatsCFIing 11-24-2006 07:56 AM

Yeah guys, im so excited to start class!! I really want to fly a turboprop. It kinda sucks cause I have friends telling me about flying the ERJ and stuff, but I know they are gonna sit reserve for eagle for a while. And even if not, I love the weather aspect of the northeast. Anyways, got my private in worcester at amity. Grew up in southbridge. Went to school in lynchburg, fly for the falwells, worked very close with anthony, great guy. We both interviewed the same day at colgan. I didnt have enough time but passed everything, told me get more multi. Anthony got hired with Eagle. He takes his PC next friday and starts IOE on sunday or monday. Again really excited to meet everyone. Anyone know what kind off chart case to get for the saab. The gf wants to buy one and im curious to see what kind I should tell her.

KiloAlpha 11-24-2006 08:43 AM

Buy one w/o wheels, it will fit better.. the ones w/ wheels do fit with a little wiggle though

Bring a 20dollar backpack its perfect for all the plane swapping. Its easy to get excited but try and just wait to see what you will personally want. There is no rush becuase here at colgan we're all clowns anyway, welcome to teh circus.

flyguyniner11 11-24-2006 03:38 PM

what bases are everyone hoping to get?

KiloAlpha 11-24-2006 04:01 PM

Bases with good flying:

ORF, CHO, SYR, ITH, MHT, PQI (if you wanna live in BFE)

Bases with bad flying:

HEF, ALB, any United base

tebpilot 11-24-2006 04:53 PM

Staples sells a good bag that just about everyone at my base has. It fits all the manuals and has wheels. It costs about $65.

flyguyniner11 11-24-2006 05:58 PM

how do you decifer good flying from bad flying, like hpn would be bad flying why?? i'd prefer hpn because of QOL more than anything i think

KiloAlpha 11-24-2006 06:08 PM

Hours per month in respect to number of legs.

Turn times.

Days off.

KiloAlpha 11-24-2006 06:11 PM

HPN: High COL and short legs
*edit* I just saw that HPN makes a IAD run, so I guess you can scratch the short legs aspect

I guess you could also add PVD to the good list. (in my opinion of course)

flyguyniner11 11-24-2006 06:14 PM

.......col?

KiloAlpha 11-24-2006 06:15 PM

cost of living; unless you already live there I suppose

flyguyniner11 11-24-2006 06:16 PM

yeah i live nearby and i hear pilots based there get an extra 300 a month, also is there a colgan pilot message board like the ones for xjt and eagle?

KiloAlpha 11-24-2006 06:22 PM

Not that I know of, but I have never looked.

The closest thing I have seen is a myspace group... ya I know, not the same.

BeatsCFIing 11-24-2006 07:05 PM

i grew up between alb, mht, and pvd, my question is if alb is bad flying how senior is mht and pvd. i could move home with my family and be 90 minutes from everyplace. kilo where you based?

CubCAPTAIN 11-24-2006 07:36 PM

I really hope to get Manchester. 30 minutes from home and one of my buds is getting a new apt lease up there in January that I could get in on. That'd be sweet

I started one - but don't have the time to publicize it. It's on Yahoo Groups. search for it - 9LDiscussion - and send me an email - I'll get back to you next week. - BCD
