Saw this on page 10C (sports) of this morning's USA Today

Can't help but think it would have been more effective in the Business or News section.

I like the whole, "If you are taking a regional jet on blah, blah, blah."

At least they finally called the plane what it is.

pilot0987 05-17-2013 05:06 AM

OOO boy! Don't know if that's a good thing or not

FlyingKat 05-17-2013 05:10 AM

The boom you heard in Indianapolis was the Reverend's head exploding....

Geardownflaps30 05-17-2013 05:20 AM

Yes. Completely in the wrong section of the paper. Should've ponied up a few more bucks. Another example of the Teamsters always being a day late and a dollar short...

Of course if we were ALPA, we would have that giant inflatable rat outside HQ. That has about the same effectiveness.

Shouldn't be plastered on billboards around all airports the public uses to travel??

D B Cooper 05-17-2013 06:02 AM

How long before Bedford tries to get a lawsuit against the IBT?

Ultralight 05-17-2013 06:15 AM

I doubt this will have much of an impact on the flying public, but it should be an eye opener to someone looking for thier first regional airline job.

I wonder if ATP shares this information on their $1,500 Republic interview prep course!

Let me save anybody thinking of doing the interview prep some hard earned coin:

1. Have a pulse
2. Show up to the interview
3. Don't be a douche

Voila! You've earned the right to be treated like trash and get paid pennies! Congrats!

Nothing like spending 10% of your take home pay or 1/3 of the sign on bonus on an interview prep completed by an instructor who has 500 hrs and has never flown anything bigger than a seminole.

But he's been trained to ATP standards FROM THE RIGHT SEAT! Come on, the instructor has to be Chuck Norris reincarnated...if Chuck Norris could die.

The public would say "Good thing we're not flying with republic holdings! Chautauqua/Shuttle America is a much better airline!" *facepalm*

But hey, If I spend $1500 for the interview they'll see that I really, really want the job! :D

On another note, I remember when Republic first started up and some of the new FAs were referring to the 170s as Republic "mainline"........it sure doesn't pay that way....

Fixed that for you.

To this day, I still give my friends there a hard time about "the widebody".

MtnPeakCruiser 05-17-2013 07:51 AM

Excellent website. Good job Teamsters! I like the ad in the Marketplace section of the USA Today as well.

Yep I remember that too...was trying to be nice :D. Was really funny when some of the new hire FAs were upset because CHQ FAs were coming over and bumping them down the list. I still remember one FA whining that this was Republic "mainline" and that shouldn't happen.......oh the young and clueless...

Well apparently those negative Nancies haven't been to Cleared To Dream > Home yet. That'll straighten them out!

Also, I get the feeling the pax could care less, because 1) they will think if RAH is so bad, quit and 2) increased pilot pay means more $$ per ticket. Oh and 3) pilots just sit there watching the autopilot, what a gravy job.

Also, the website needs to be more bullet points and pictures, or else you've lost your average audience in ten seconds anyways...

TallFlyer 05-17-2013 02:41 PM

Yeah, I have a hard time seeing public pressure affecting union negotiations. As long as the majority of the traveling public can get to Disney once a year they'll be happy.

I think the tactic of spreading the news to potential new hires has more effectiveness. If RAH can't staff their upcoming growth they're going to have issues.

CanoePilot 05-17-2013 03:46 PM

I remember seeing bedford on undercover boss and he seemed like such a likable nice guy.

Lab Rat 05-17-2013 03:56 PM

The only people who are going to care about this are ONLY those who read APC.

Noseeums 05-17-2013 04:55 PM

Regional unions always use the bottom-end pay on their propaganda, but when they sign new contracts that bottom-end pay barely budges.

Pre contract "Is this worth it - $18,282"
post contract "Yay, $23,000! Wait... um?"

Impressive!

fullflank 05-17-2013 05:14 PM

This is a good effort, but it's true, no one will care. The public didn't care when usapa took out a full page add claiming that Usair wasn't putting enough fuel on planes, and they certainly won't care about this. Good effort though really.

As long as the passengers continue to arrive at their destinations safely and airlines sell cheap tickets but nickel and dime them, they won't care. They'll complain but will continue to buy tickets on the airline that offers the cheapest fare.

JetA PourHomme 05-17-2013 06:46 PM

Oh that's gravy. I called my father this morning to have a chat with him and see how he was doing. He asked me if I had ever heard of an airline called "Republic". I said of course I have, and explained the whole regional contract business to him and how Republic isn't well regarded for their QOL. Then he told me of the ad in the paper.

I should've guessed that I would see it here! haha

Captain Tony 05-17-2013 07:00 PM

I hope you guys get a good contract so you can quit clogging the airways of the northeast flying around at .65 trying to make overblock. So pathetic.

Awww...Captain Tony...sooooo sorry to be inconveniencing you! I'm also so sorry for being so pathetic. Ugh, when will we learn?!?!?

Again, on behalf of our entire pilot group, please accept my heartfelt apology!

You really can't please everybody. Some people will call you a bottom feeder and spineless for not slowing down and forcing the company into a new contract ala AA. Others will criticize you for inconveniencing them.

Thanks for your support in our struggle!

Emb170man 05-17-2013 09:21 PM

.65??? Hey buzz light year, why are you flying so fast?!

TillerEnvy 05-18-2013 06:21 AM

What a stupid, stupid, stupid website our union put out.

Company man? You are not welcome here.

RogerDorn 05-18-2013 06:43 AM

Hey guys...we can help the company and save sooo much fuel by flying slower!!

(sarcasm intended)

Have a good day fellow dbags!

Exactly, the flying public can care less, after all its not their fault you took the job in the first place.

Can someone explain to me how flying slow and saving a bunch of fuel "sticks it to the man"? Seems to me all it does is screw over your controllers and fellow pilots who want to get home on time. If you want to stick it to the company write stuff up when it's broken and call in sick when you're sick.
