Mainline Attitude!!!!

Ok, at Colgan anytime I jumpseated on Us Airways for the most part the crews are really awesome and friendly, but every now and then some of them feel the need to talk down or disrespect me, or "us" because I fly for a "regional". I have noticed here at Expressjet that CAL pilots (only some) have a REALLY bad attitude towards Expressjet pilots. I love when the FO's who probbaly worked at Expressjet calls us "kids" or the CA's walk by when we are deadheading on them "for work" and they don't even say hello!!!!!! We are HUMAN BEINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am thankful for CAL, cause without them I would'nt have a flying job, but come on for christsake.....................a lot came from a regional, a lot are scabs, and I bet alot only had 400hrs when they got hired a million years ago, anybody else get this type of treatment???

Velocipede 11-29-2006 07:12 AM

Got a little chip on your shoulder, KimoSaaby?

JoeyMeatballs 11-29-2006 07:29 AM

haha nah not at all its just how quickly some forget.............................

HotMamaPilot 11-29-2006 07:33 AM

I think that the reason they may have attitude is that at Colgan, you were flying ACTUAL regional routes. The flying that Colgan does was indeed intended to feed mainline. The flying at XJT, however, is MOSTLY that of many other "regionals" i.e. taking over mainline routes. I wouldn't worry about it too much(the attitudes, that is)...they are just threatened by the notion that you are trying to put them out of a job. (no, not you personally), but management would love to have as many mainline routes flown by "regional jets" as they can....CHEAPER LABOR!

JoeyMeatballs 11-29-2006 07:35 AM

I can understand that, but I or my fellow regional guys have nothing to do with that, thats the Beancounters fault

Cheaper labor, but costs alot more to operate per seat mile. Besides, which would be cheaper....Run 3 50 seaters or one 737/757?

HotMamaPilot 11-29-2006 07:58 AM

Do the math.....labor costs are the biggest factors with airlines.

That said, it is still FAR more costly to run 3 50-seaters than a single 737 or Airbus. CASM rules, not labor....

JoeyMeatballs 11-29-2006 08:11 AM

Yes but 3 50 seaters spread throughout the day gives people far more options for traveling, more options...................you see where I am going with this

MikeB525 11-29-2006 08:27 AM

I heard that fuel, not labor, is now an airline's biggest cost.

JoeyMeatballs 11-29-2006 08:29 AM

Actually the Airlines biggest cost is the enormus amounts they pay their CEO's to run the industry into the ground

HAHA!! nice one, AMEN to that...

YoYoMa16 11-29-2006 10:36 AM

maybe you just catch some on a bad day....crappy schedule, no chance of the capt making his flight home that night, etc...

Yeah so have the CEO, CFO, CDO and whoever else is making 200K+ take a pay cut. OH wait .... no instead lets screw the pilots and give our management a nice 150K bonus.... (see AMR)

Fuel costs are out of their control, labor costs aren't.

I dunno... I once had to sit jumpseat from ORD to MSP on United, and the captain spent the ENTIRE flight telling me how I was single handedly destroying the industry by flying for the regionals... Based on the things he was telling me, it sounded like his problem was deeper than a bad schedule or uncommutable trip...

Wow! You too! I wonder if it was the same guy that did it to me one time on the 3 1/2 hour flight from PHL to DEN. Wait, that was the FO.

Told you not to post your picture.

It's kinda funny this happening to you. Mr. Mesa Pilots Suck. We didn't do anything worse to you then you did to them.

JoeyMeatballs 11-29-2006 08:41 PM

hahaah we didnt do anything to CAL you wackjob, and MESA pilots may not suck, but your company does

SharkyBN584 11-30-2006 06:40 AM

This thread makes me glad I only use Delta to get around...everytime I hop on they ask me how much time I have and if I know they may start hiring in the spring. Those guys rock.

Wow, really? I may have to give them a try... a guy can only be blamed for the Earth's problems so long before he tires of it...;)

I agree. I only commuted on them for about 5 months but I never ran into a crew that treated me like alot of UAL's did. That goes for the FA's and gate agents as well.

Yea, that's another thing! Some of UAL's FA treated me like crap! The gate agents certain places were worse...

Wackjob thats funny. I didn't say anything about CAL. The discussion was mainline pilots, not CAL.

I love those kind of flights. that's when you get to tell them that they're at fault because they are the ones that gave up the scope.

Just because you are getting a ride home or to work doesn't mean that you have to take crap from the pilots.

Since I fly the Saab, when they start saying the regionals kill the industry crap I like to ask them "Oh yeah, sorry that you feal I am stealing your flying. By the way, when was the last time your (Boeing, Airbus, MD) was scheduled for DFW to Waco?"

CAL pilots seem to be some of the worst. Who knows, it might be the scabs who hate us. Not sure why that is since most of em were at Express at some point, usually during the PFT days...go figure. I will say this, if a CAL guy is trying to get on my airplane (when I upgrade) and he has a poor attitude, just watch how hard I work to get him on... Might start "finding" extra bags or freight instead of half-weights:D If a CAL guy gives me grief for working at a "regional" I usually tell them that I wish they would get more 737s so they could start doing Beaumont and Lake Chuck. I hate those places and it'd mean more jobs at CAL :D

Thedude 12-01-2006 12:29 AM

It has been my experinece that most off the a$$hats were never at the commuters. So they really have no idea what life is like on the other side. They most likely were hired right out of the military or got lucky and got a mainline job back in the 80's. Do a little probing into their background and that should tell the tale.

Exactly, a lot of them, not all of course, but alot of them got their jobs with less, way less experience it took us to get our regional jobs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
