Certainly, but the Canadian Gov't takes $31 of that $41 an hour ;-)

The government taking money won't affect what Jazz's payscale is though. This makes a difference because the company's rates to the mainline would still be the same. Probably the reason why mainline is looking into outsourcing to the US regionals.

I have to say, I liked Air Canada when they were operating the 175's on their certificate. I guess we put the pressure on Air Canada to outsource those aircraft.

Ha....I was curious though so I did some very very rough math, not accounting for deductions and what not.

Canadian income tax rates for Individuals - current and previous years

Assuming you make under 43,000 taxable.
The Canadian government only takes 15% = $6.15/hr
The Provincial Government (Ontario) takes 9.15% = $3.75/hr (I didn't look to see if this comes off post federal tax or the base amount so t may be

So take home hourly is about $31.10.

So in Canada if you made $41,000 taxable you would take home about $31,110, so the

In the US if you had 41,000 taxable Federal tax would be $6,286 and State (Michigan) 4.25% $1,575, so you would take home around $33,139

Yea I was really bored.

If you are really bored, go ahead and see what paying taxes here in the U.S. gets you (hint: wars) as opposed to what paying taxes in Canada gets you (hint: health care and a non-crumbling infrastructure).

Oh I agree, when you factor in the cost of insurance here in the states the gap narrows even further at the low end of the wage scale.

Oh and the Canadian Health Care is such a great system.

Yeah, now take that 33 grand and start subtracting the medical/dental monthly fees and doctor visits. That's easily another $2,000-$5,000+ per year depending on medical plan specifics and how often one goes to a doctor. In Canada, those higher taxes get you a national health card you present to the doctor and that's it.

It seems as if this discussion is well on its way to Godwin's Law.

I never thought I would see the day -- outsourcing to the US for cheap labor. Welcome to the new social order.
