While not perfect, they seem to be more satisfied with their system than we are with ours.

I wouldn't cite 10 year old polling data when trying to make a point, though I agree with you and my Canadian relatives and friends all have a better picture of their own healthcare than we do.

Canadian income tax rates for Individuals - current and previous years

The Provincial Government (Ontario) takes 9.15% = $3.75/hr (I didn't look to see if this comes off post federal tax or the base amount so t may be

So take home hourly is about $31.10.

So in Canada if you made $41,000 taxable you would take home about $31,110, so the

In the US if you had 41,000 taxable Federal tax would be $6,286 and State (Michigan) 4.25% $1,575, so you would take home around $33,139

Yea I was really bored.
After living in both places for many years i can say that the benefits are better in Canada. Taxes are a bit higher. But very close. In the USA you get nickeled and dimed. But it all works out to the same.
The biggest difference is alcohol. Very expensive in Canada.
Healthcare in the USA is beyond expensive. And the care is equal on both sides of the border. Maybe the advantage the Canadians have is that hospitals are under no financial pressure to kick you out on the street. If you need to be there a week, then so be it.

I agree with Seafeye... I have worked as an RN in both countries and both systems have things I love and things I hate. The people who think the other countries system is horrible are probably limiting themself to a single news channel for information. Same goes for income tax information.

Your quality of life is realitively equal and most people end up with zero in their checking account by the end of each month.

Do you really think a regional airline won't be able to compete because of what the pilots make? That is a small fraction of a percentage in the total cost of each flight.

Knowing RNs and a doctor who have worked in both countries it is a fact that a for profit health care system like ours is a sham.

The quality in both countries is top notch. The problem is access to that quality here in the U.S. It is difficult and expensive. In many cases prohibitively so. We are the only country in the world where people actually lose everything they own over health care bills.

In Canada not only is the quality good like here, but everyone has access and nobody goes bankrupt over it. Same thing with Europe and Japan.

That was my mistake, the article linking to it cited it as 2011, I see now the date on it was 2003.

Still it was better than the data he cited, which was zero.

Why do I come to a thread titled "Air Canada RFP to include US regionals" and see a page and a half about healthcare?

Thread drift aside, this is an interesting unfolding. Not really sure what to make of it until some regional in the U.S. decides to start talking.

Was going to comment but it would take the topic further off track.
