Regionals and Bed Bugs
#12
Several years ago, I had a problem with these hotels...Courtyard in BTV, Airport Marriott GSO and Courtyard in OMA. All were Marriott properties.
In OMA, I showed the front desk clerk a picture of welts on the back of my leg (sometimes a cell phone camera picture is worth more than a thousand words!). I told him I didn't have those when I went to bed the previous night. His eyes just about popped out of his head.
In GSO, the staff told me "those are tree spiders, not bedbugs." I told them I didn't care what they were, I wanted another room. They relocated me into another room. The following day, I received a call from the hotel manager and he wanted more information and also told me the room was out of service until they got an exterminator in there. He handled it well while his staff didn't.

I have to disagree Senior Skipper. With iphones, ipads, androids, and all manner of mobile devices today, it can become exceedingly laborious to ensure every i is dotted and t is crossed. Especially with that dastardly self correct thingy! For the purpose of a forum board, I would rather a guy contribute his point by pounding it out on his teeny-tiny touch screen during his one hour turn and hitting SEND, than risk losing it because he's too worried about proper spelling or grammar.

BuggyBeds: Bed Bugs
They do sell Bed Bug eradication and detection products for those who travel. When I travel with my company we spend about 2 to 3 weeks per month living in hotels. I always have these with me and haven't had a problem yet.

I have had bed bugs before. Where I live the washer/dryer are in the garage. I always leave my bags in the garage and wash my stuff as soon as I arrive. There is also a shower in our garage so I take I hot shower before I go inside. I haven't brought them into the house yet. Bed bugs can happen anywhere from the roach motel to the ritz carlton.

I've experienced bed bugs at our old hotel in DSM and PHF. I took pictures of the bed bugs and forwarded them to our union hotel guys. I also had a sandwich baggie handy so I put two of them in the baggie and took them to the front desk. We have an online hotel complaint form we can fill out as well. The room and the two rooms around it were shut down until the exterminator came in. Needless to say I washed all my clothes in hot water as soon as I got home. And I routinely check my bed. None of my stuff ever touches the floor anymore.

In Pittsburgh's defense they have an infestation of stink bugs which look similar and can be easily confused for bed bugs. Not much of a defense of the city I know, but stink bugs feed on fruits and vegetables not blood.
