Yep!

I've had my app in with DL since 2006, no call. I've had the app in with Continental/United since 2005, no call. I applied to NWA in '07 and got called 3 months later, got hired but then they merged with DL and didn't take the NWA pool with them. Applied with US Airways a couple times and saw them at a job fair, no call. 4-year degree, no busted checkrides, clean record, military (enlisted), not a check airman.

Sometimes he gets work blocks that are not commutable on either end and not able to go home between trips, commuting in the day before a 4 day, sitting in the crashpad for 2 days between trips, doing a 2 day then going home the next day. This has been going on for 5 years. Sure he makes more money than I do, but what's the point if he never has time to enjoy it? I'm sure sometime down the road he will have a great QOL and make more than twice what I make. I'd rather watch my kids grow up and make less money. If things go downhill at SkyWest, yes I will have missed the boat at the majors but I'd rather miss the boat with an airline than miss it with my family.

Your friend also got hired at the end of a hiring cycle with the age 65 rule going into effect. That meant 5 years of stagnation for everybody. I know that another economic downturn could stop things again. Barring another downturn, you will move up much quicker than he did.

How did I make it sound easy? I said planning to stay at a regional if you're under 55 is likely a very poor investment. The best stuff is rarely easy to get no matter what industry you're in. If you get stuck there due to flying record, personal record, or personality issues... that sucks and that's part of the reason why it's more enjoyable to fly at a major. Other than that, I'd be clawing and clammering to get out of said regional.

Have you had friends look over your application? DL typically won't call unless the application is flawless with attention to detail.

Anyone know if majors hire regional FOs? Or do they all require TPIC?

"yes I will have missed the boat at the majors but I'd rather miss the boat with an airline than miss it with my family."
The airlines end at 65, my family ends when I pass. I could not agree with your sentiment more.
