I lived in St. Louis four years and my car was never stolen... although my roomates was... twice!... and my old flight instructor's... but only once!
It all depends where you plan on parking it. St. Louis is a great city to "go out" in, so I would definitely want to have a car there.
You should be fine as long as you use some common sense and educate yourself on where not to go.

Happy Training.

The area aound the hotel and Flight safety (within walking distance of each other) is certainly not the greatest, but to date I have never had an incident with my car or anyone else's I was in training with being stolen or broken into. Having a car is a big plus out there, as there are only fast food restaurants near the hotel. About a 3 mile drive away there are lots of eating options and grocery stores. I would say bring it, especially if you are out there for more than just sim training.

I grew up in that neighborhood. Don't leave anything you couldn't part with in your car. It's not the best neighborhood, but if you don't leave a reason to get your stuff stolen it won't. Avoid eating at Wendys.

There is a good BBQ place at the Pear Tree Inn on the west end of the hotel strip and there is a good Italian place at the Drury. Otherwise it's mostly fast food as stated.

Only one guy had his car broken into while we were there...

...but it was done by us....and hilarity definately ensued. If you don't feel like driving, don't. There were plenty of people that decided to drive and getting around was never a problem.

The good thing about staying in a hotel near the airport is that you have access to downtown through metrolink. The bad thing about it is that if you want to go anywhere else you're going to have to get a cab or bum a ride. Getting around this city is very difficult without a car. Public transportation sucks and going anywhere west of the airport it quickly becomes apparent that you're in Urban Sprawl hell.

St. Louis is like any big city. Don't do anything stupid and you will be fine. I live in St. Louis for the time being by the way.
