TSA: Captain Qualified First Officers

PSA: 8 months for now (For those meeting 1000 hours in 8 months or possibly street captains), for those starting with 0 121 SIC or 135 PIC you are looking at least 2-3 years since junior eligible pilots will be coming in an taking away upgrade slots. It will likely take a majority of you a minimum of 1.5 years to even get 1000 hours. Very good chances once PSA starts to park their 50 seat aircraft those with 0 time will see 3-4 year upgrades or longer.

Mesa: 8 months, maybe street captains? (For those meeting 1000 hours in 8 months or possibly street captains), for those starting with 0 121 SIC or 135 PIC you are looking at least 2-3 years since junior eligible pilots will be coming in an taking away upgrade slots. It will likely take a majority of you a minimum of 1.5 years to even get 1000 hours.

Compass: Down to 7 months. (For those meeting 1000 hours it is 7 months and shrinking to possibly street captains), for those starting with 0 121 SIC or 135 PIC you are looking at least 2-3 years since junior eligible pilots will be coming in an taking away upgrade slots. It will likely take a majority of you a minimum of 1.5 years to even get 1000 hours.

Piedmont: 3 years and dropping

Gojet: 3 years and stagnant?

Skywest: 4 years and slowly dropping

Air Wisconsin: 5 years and dropping?

Republic: 7 years and possibly dropping?

ASA/Expressjet: 8 years and stagnant?

Envoy: 8 years and stagnant?

Endeavor: 8 years and possibly dropping?

Horizon: possibly dropping to 2-3 years?

PSA is the same, more or less. Everyone expects it to climb to 1.5 years once enough new pilots get their time and everything stabilizes.

We need to tell the reality of these upgrades. What % are they on the bid list? On top of that, anything less than 1.5 years means pilots are being bypassed because they lack 1000 hours of 121 SIC or 135 PIC. This also means the upgrades will become longer for those being bypassed since junior pilots to them will be taking upgrade slots they could have gotten if they had the time and even longer for those coming in right now without any 1000 hours.

The real question, as 404 yxl mentioned, is how long is it for the guy who walks in today?

Compass is a perfect example of a situation that doesn't help a guy walking in today. He's got almost the entire FO list waiting to upgrade so the DEC from 7 months ago, who got a quick upgrade, is in an entirely different situation from the newbie walking in today who's looking at how many years? Two? Five? Seven?

At Silver the upgrade is just over two years. In the next month or two it should be under two years.

Republic is going to 2011 with the next bid. Still , ****ty though :)

If nothing changes, at least 2 years if you have 0 hours and upwards of 2-5 years depending on how things shake out. Similar for Mesa, longer for PSA since they will be parking their 50 seat aircraft that will reduce the Captain spots down the road.

I sort of think this statement applies to all regionals today...

A long way down the road. At the very least they will stick around for another 3 years, most likely longer. Thats plenty of time for a new 121 pilot to upgrade. Also think what the attrition levels will be like then; sure things will slow if the 200's disappear but it wont hinder anyones progress significantly.

Once a 0 time new hire gets their time, the 50 seat aircraft will start to be parked which will increase the upgrade time frame versus regionals with no 50 seat aircraft to park.

The time has already passed to go to PSA if you have 0 121 time. Those with the time will get quick upgrades, but those with none are in for a rude awakening. That's not saying going to other regionals with 50 seat aircraft is a better choice, just that PSA is not a good choice anymore for those with 0 time looking for a quick upgrade.

Be interesting to see how this theory plays out. I am hoping you are wrong haha!

Go where the work rules/pay are good. Things change quickly. Upgrades could be 2-3 years today at X airline and then you can be there 6+ years without seeing it, making less than 2nd year pay at Y airline.
